The result is a perfectly harmonious fusion of character-filled Sicilian charm and luxurious sophistication that is proving extremely attractive to multi-generational groups in search of a home from home in which to gather for special moments. Belich, Menfi For me, Belich is ideal for those in search of a blissful romantic escape or an unforgettable honeymoon: beautifully designed, art-filled interiors flow out onto shady sea-view terraces and lawned gardens. A pool offers the perfect spot from which to toast the sun as it sets into the sea, a path at the bottom of the property leads down to a long sandy beach (one of my favourites), and the surrounding countryside of gently rolling vineyards completes the idyllic picture. Ai Faraglioni, Scopello A striking example of postmodernism, designed by a disciple of Le Corbusier, Ai Faraglioni occupies a breathtaking position on one of Sicily’s most dramatic stretches of coastline, an area I love. Perched above the sea, to which it has direct access, it’s a fabulous option for those who love seafront living, swimming and snorkelling. You can also take out a kayak to explore the historic tonnara (a tuna fishery featured in Ocean’s Twelve) and the paradisiacal reserve of Lo Zingaro. – As told to Thomas Midulla VERY GOOD BONES Set in a 18th-century estate, Il San Corrado di Noto offers rustic charm and contemporary comforts in equal measure. By Jemima Sissons B ehind lemon-hued fortifications in fields of wildflowers and dry-stone walls lies Il San Corrado di Noto, whose curves and alabaster marble stones are as smooth as the temples that dot the surrounding hills in western and southern Sicily. The old masseria of local nobleman Prince Nicolaci has been painstakingly turned into a 26-suite and eight-villa hotel, and here silence reigns. Past an entrance of citrus trees and its 18th-century belltower, a courtyard appears more monastery than boutique hotel. It does feel more grown-up than a family destination, although the pool villas are perfect for multigenerational voyaging. The capacious entry-level suites reveal sunken baths, four-poster beds and minibars furnished with Italian products such as La Via del Tè tisane tea bags and Piedmont Om Gin. The pools here are majestic. A square “green” pool, which is heated out of season, sits next to the Technogym-equipped gym and spa (with Sodashi products). On the other side, a magnificent 100m pool (dubbed the “One Hundred Blue” pool) stretches the length of the garden – keen swimmers should flock here as it’s one of the longest in Europe, or to the hotel’s beach club, reached by a regular shuttle. The hotel feels very styled and aimed at a fashion-forward market (Dolce & Gabbana has hosted a recent party here). Taschen Sumo books and candles shaped like local cannoli decorate the library. A wonderful store reveals fiesta-style dresses by local designer Lavi and sandals with diamante lemon and serpent designs, signifying Sicilian motifs. A billowy kaftan is the order of the day after the exquisite food on offer. Chef Paolo Gionfriddo turns out serious fare and tasting menus in the gourmet restaurant Principe di Belludia, however poolside Casa Pasta offers up quinoa salads, delicious aubergine and salted ricotta pasta and seared tuna. Breakfasts are princely affairs – the wine cellar piled high with pistachio croissants, brioche with almond granita and spongy apple cake.
