|On Board| Elegance in Motion CRN‘s new motor yacht RIO has a sporty design with a superior sense of style. By Rachel Ingram E legant and sporty may sound like a contradictory aesthetic but this is exactly what M/Y RIO achieves through contemporary styling and dynamic architectural lines. One of the latest superyachts to sail out of CRN’s yard, RIO is testament to the Italian shipbuilder’s commitment to design and quality. The custom arm of the powerhouse Ferretti Group, CRN exclusively crafts custom steel and aluminium yachts of 45 metres and upwards. RIO, its eighthlargest build to date, will make her debut at the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show. She was designed in partnership with Omega Architects, which created the exterior concept. This is the first time the companies have collaborated since 73m M/Y Yalla in 2014 – the second being the recently delivered 52m all-aluminium M/Y CIAO. 50 CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM

RIO has a “strong artisanal stamp,” says Stefano de Vivo, Ferretti Group CCO and CRN executive board member. “She stands out for her taut, flowing hull lines and near-vertical bow bear to express her remarkable elegance and dynamic, sporty personality.” As with all of the Ancona-based yard’s yachts, RIO is fully custom. She has four decks, served by a lift, including a flush owner’s deck featuring a huge multipurpose lounge on the bow that can be used as private quarters, a dance floor under the stars or even an open-air cinema. The remaining decks accommodate five guest cabins, including two full-beam suites and three staterooms, and sizeable living and dining spaces – a highlight is the “palatial” main salon. Space is generous and full-height windows form a visual continuum in sync with the exterior architecture. The main aft deck features designer Frank Laupman’s signature arches, which assure guests’ privacy, while a fluid layout smoothly links the indoor and outdoor living areas harmoniously. “Special mentions must be made of the fabulous lounge at the beach club – a recreational and wellness area equipped with a hammam plus various outdoor and indoor water toys for the guests to enjoy – and of the outdoor area at the bow on the wheelhouse deck, a highly versatile space with a spa pool zone,” de Vivo says. Pulina Exclusive handled the interior styling. Briefed to create “happy” spaces for younger family members, the team produced a contemporary yet She stands out for her taut, flowing hull lines and nearvertical bow bear to express her elegance and dynamic, sporty personality – Stefano de Vivo, Ferreti CCO inviting concept. White walls are harmonised with a marine palette of pastel turquoise and azure furnishings, while bright artworks create fun pops of colour. “Imaginative stylish details enrich all the decks with character,” says de Divo. “Sumptuous wallpapers and jungle-style decorations create vibrant, joyous, endlessly fascinating effects. As for the material choices, the preferred woods are American walnut and white lacquered oak in staves, selected for the floors and walls. Crema d’Orcia and Calacatta Vagli Oro marbles embellish the bathrooms.” Powered by twin Caterpillar 3512C engines, RIO cruises at 12 knots, although she can reach speeds of 15 knots, with a range of up to 4,500 nautical miles, making her perfect for island hopping. crn-yacht.com PHOTOS © CRN M/Y RIO’s aft deck dining area CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM 51
