Contributors SPRING 2021 Alexander Lobrano “Le Gard is that perfect French place in the sun that’s sophisticated enough to have great restaurants and hotels, but which remains authentically rural and blissfully authentic for not having been gentrified yet – and Uzès just may be the most beautiful town in France,” explains the Paris-based author of The Old – and New – Gard (p26). A frequent contributor to The New York Times, Food & Wine and Travel + Leisure, Lobrano’s gastronomic coming-ofage memoir My Place at the Table is scheduled for a summer release. Lanie Goodman “When it comes to creating beauty, Louis Benech’s energy and exuberance will make you rethink your own vegetal environment, even if that means going out and buying a small pot of orchids for your desk,” says the New Yorkborn writer, now based in the South of France, who wrote about Benech in The Gentleman Gardener (p56). “He makes you realise that contemplating loveliness should be part of everyone’s day.” Goodman is a regular contributor to publications including Condé Nast Traveller and Forbes. ILLUSTRATIONS JÖRN KASPUHL Paul Linder The Swiss-born general manager of the Amanzoe resort in the Greek Peloponnese returned to his homeland for an intensive week of wellnessboosting therapies and assessments at Chenot Palace Weggis, an experience he chronicles in this issue’s To Good Health (p70). “I was impressed,” says Linder, who has held GM positions at Como Uma Ubud and Amanpuri in Phuket. “I learned a tremendous amount, and I look forward to applying the health guidance I received here to my daily life.” Jemima Sissons Within an hour of arriving at the Maçakizi hotel in Bodrum, Turkey, the author of Life Is Easy at Maçakizi (p17) reports, “we had already made firm friends who we now see back home in London”. No surprise really, she notes, given that the hotel’s owner, Sahir Erozan, and general manager, Andrew Jacobs, “manage to create both a haven of calm and the ultimate party hotel at the same time”. Sissons edits the magazine Sphere and her writing has appeared in The Sunday Telegraph, WSJ Magazine and the Financial Times. Stephen Doig “Men’s style has segued into a steady casualisation for a while now, and the events over the past year have only served to underline this,” says Doig, who penned Casual Is King (p38). “What’s striking is how brands are fusing the two worlds of sartorialism and casual dressing to form a new language for our wardrobes.” The Londoner has previously worked at Harper’s Bazaar and Mr Porter, and currently presides over all matters of men’s style at The Telegraph.
