Incredibly refreshing.

Incredibly refreshing. The energy massage is another daily ritual, and one of my favourites. I am passionate about massages – I lived in Asia for 25 years – and after my great massage yesterday, I was curious what I might get today. Jimmy used the perfect pressure and incorporated Chinese cupping with his hand strokes, something I have never experienced before and will miss in any future massage. I also tried vacuum therapy (great for athletes), hypoxia training and a bio-energy acupuncture treatment with Mr Stylianos, during which we talked about Chinese medicine and Greek philosophy. As I re-entered the real world, I had the impression I had just been at the heart of both Chinese healing and Western medicine TUESDAY Two assessments today – skin and cardiorespiratory fitness – along with the usual bath/mud/jet/massage course, which has proved an amazing daily ritual. I also had a hypo/hyperoxy treatment (alternating reduced and high concentrations of oxygen through a mask) as well as my first neuro-acoustic relaxation therapy. But the highlight was the whole-body cryotherapy treatment. I began in chambers of -10°C and -26°C before entering the -110°C chamber, all the while supervised by a therapist who, for safety, maintained voice contact via speakers. It is amazing how much cold your body can take: two minutes today. Immediately afterwards I felt energised and refreshed. WEDNESDAY I love the aromatherapy bath first thing in the morning; I feel like a baby in a warm bath. Today I was once again lucky with the energy massage: Jimmy worked on my body, which was a little tight as I had gone on a run the previous night along Lake Lucerne towards Vitznau – my favourite way to explore places. A stress tbest, bioenergy treatment and a multistep facial all followed before my second consultation with Dr Shirin, who was incredibly easy to talk to and gave advice on a number of things I could do, both physically and nutritionally, back home. I lasted three minutes in the cryotherapy chamber today. Is it crazy to say I feel good at -110°C? Both my body and mind felt sharp and clear afterwards. My second neuro-acoustic therapy finished my day, but I found it difficult to find deep relaxation after the stimulation of the cryochamber – a concern I shared with CEO Ivana Sgheiz and Dr George. THURSDAY An acupuncture treatment gave immediate relief to my L4/L5 vertebrae – which have been From top: neurac treatment for muscle pain; postural assessment; cardiorespiratory fitness assessment issues for some years – and then I had another healing hypo/hyperoxy treatment. In my final consultation with Dr Shirin, we discussed the week and what worked and what did not: the only improvements, in my eyes, were the effects of the neuro-acoustic therapy and a few of the food items. The bath/mud/jet/massage course was my last experience of the day, and I think I might prefer it in the morning. Earlier in the day, I had my third cryotherapy session: I spent 3:10 inside, which looks paltry when I write it down but stretches on for eternity. In the evening I went for a walk in the cold winter night and felt great – which I attribute, in part, to the cryotherapy. FRIDAY A photo-biomodulation treatment for the second straight day – which offers a wonderful, healing, solarium-like experience for 20-minute bursts. At my final bioenergy screening, I saw my improvements from Saturday, and I also had immediate improvement at the neurac treatment, which has some similarity to Pilates. It was the first time I had seen the machine, which comes from Norway, and I’m very impressed. A final trip through the nowfamiliar bath/mud/jet/massage ritual and I’m feeling wonderfully cared for. I have seen the mood swings that some people can go through on a full-body detox, and the staff here are perfectly charming and experienced to handle everything with grace. Overall, as I re-entered the real world, I had the impression I had just been at the heart of both Chinese healing and Western medicine, an experience that blended state-of-the-art medical technologies with world-class practitioners. I felt safe and welcome – and emerged with a harmonious body, mind and soul. I had come to see, to experience and to learn. Success. And I can, and will, wholeheartedly recommend Chenot Palace to anyone. chenotpalaceweggis.com • PHOTOS ALEX TEUSCHER 74 CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM PLEASE CHECK THE LATEST GOVERNMENT ADVICE BEFORE BOOKING TRAVEL OR DEPARTING ON ANY TRIP
