ON THE WATER YACHTING TIS’s spacious cwners deck Instant Classic A collaboration between German shipyard Lürssen and British studio Winch Design, the 111m TIS is a cutting-edge giga yacht with impeccable style. By Cornelia Marioglou PHOTOS MICHAL BAGINSKI; OPPOSITE PAGE: KLAUS JORDAN W hen the yachting world heard that German shipyard Lürssen, known for producing the most opulent yachts on the planet, was joining forces with Winch Design, expectations were sky high. And when the 111m TIS was launched on 13 August 2018, after more than 30 months of building time, the critical acclaim was unanimous. She was a masterpiece, beyond even the highest of expectations. Winch designed both the interior and exterior of the blue steel-hulled yacht with white aluminium superstructure. The sleek and contemporary lines of her silhouette contrast with the interiors, which are more traditional but not without all the mod cons. As Winch says, “She is a classic, and I believe that TIS is a pinnacle of classic design in the context that Bannenberg’s first motor yacht design Carinthia V was.” Jon Bannenberg, one of the 20th century’s leading designers, is considered by many to be the godfather of the superyacht and was Winch’s teacher. Winch continues excitedly, “I hope that TIS is considered as elegant and iconic in 40 years as Carinthia V was.” Perhaps it will be – only time will tell – but at the moment, as the ship is on her way to her maiden voyage in the Mediterranean, everyone is celebrating. Moran Yacht & Ship, the US brokerage headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, sold the project and also managed and supervised it during the build, along with the owner’s representatives, pooling their expertise with Winch and Lürssen into a superteam. TIS’s ice-class hull, with a beam of 16.85 metres, boasts extraordinary volumes, designed to give plenty of space to the owner and guests. The ship is highlighted by a sumptuous owner’s suite decorated in an elegant, sedate palette of warm creams, sage greens and precious metals.
