For the Italian brand Cassina, meanwhile, legendary Italian designer Gaetano Pesce implemented the same motif with a resin-cast screen called Tramonto (Italian for sunset). “New York is a place overflowing with innovation and colours. My screen evokes the shapes of the skyscrapers, the expression of their spatial vitality,” says Pesce. His magnificent piece is an eye-catcher and good-mood guarantor in one. The Italian label Gufram celebrated the 50th birthday of its iconic Cactus coat stand with 12 different colourways and an Andy Warhol pop edition that caught the eye of collectors from all over the world, as did this year’s version of the legendary PHOTOS FROM TOP: MAXIME VERRET, © SWAROVSKI 34 CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM

The lengthy colouring process stretches over four days and involves five different sanding processes. “I think that people’s current need for colour has something to do with the Covid crisis, which is (hopefully) now over. Almost all our manufacturers report a growing demand for coloured furniture, lighting and home accessories,” says Verner Panton’s daughter Carin Panton von Halem, who manages her father’s estate. She herself grew up in a sunny yellow room and believes it helped shape her disposition and her unwaveringly positive outlook on life. Nevertheless, she would never mix too many strong tones in one room. Colourfulness, she thinks, can be overdone. “Colours in a room should be used carefully and according to individual needs. There is no universal recipe on this subject. Every person has to find that out for themselves.” Clockwise from top left: Arthur Arbesser collaborated with Abet Laminati to create the vibrant patterns for his In a Box exhibition, arthurarbesser.com; Gufram took inspiration from Andy Warhol to create its Andy’s Pink Cactus coat stand, gufram.it; the iconic Panton chair re-envisioned in two tones, vitra.com CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM 35
