ART & DESIGN DRAFTING

ART & DESIGN DRAFTING CHANGES CYKNO CHIC ON WHEELS The Italian firm Cykno – which derives its moniker from the Greek word for swan – is another company taking inspiration from the past to develop a vehicle for the future. The brainchild of Bruno Greppi, a renowned innovator in the motorbike field, in collaboration with Luca Scopel, a designer specialising in luxe products, the Cykno ebike is an object of beauty as much a mode of transport: the monocoque frame and handlebars are upholstered in the finest leather, while the distinctive seat is suspended on stainless steel support. A far cry from the uglyduckling bikes that used to define this genre. cykno.com M55 TERMINUS FUTURE NOW The name Terminus seems strangely inapt for the flagship ebike from Hungarybased M55, a firm that has set out to change and continues to challenge every preconception of what an ebike should be. A unique drive system judges how fast the rider is pedalling and boosts the motor accordingly, while the futuristic design – with more than a tip towards motorcycles – hints at the power of the remarkable machine. With each unit made to order and fully customised to suit the weight and height of the customer, there seems no end to M55’s ingenuity. m55-bike.com WHAT’S IN STORE Two notable names could have a significant impact on the future development of ebikes. British maker of renowned lightweight sports cars Caterham (caterhambikes.com, left) enters the market this year with a range of sporty creations including the Classic, while fellow carmaker Audi’s (audi.com, far left) take on the ebike, the ultra-light, ultra-fast Wörthersee, promises to change the landscape forever – should it ever leave the concept stage and enter production.
