4 THE SERENGETI ENDLESS

4 THE SERENGETI ENDLESS ADVENTURE The wilds of north Tanzania encourage plaudits and clichés in equal measure: hordes of wildebeest traversing the Serengeti is both a wonder to behold, but also a much-used trope to signify this part of East Africa – and a huge draw for the visitors who can make the park seem overpopulated with tourists. A new angle? The &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge (pictured), which reopened this past year in the far west of the park, an idyllic and private viewing platform for the abundant wildlife, as there are few other parks in the area. The accommodation comprises ten modern suites, while central areas provide spacious decks for views overlooking the Grumeti River, where pods of hippos can be seen gathering, before guests can embark on one of the two daily game drives. The central circular bar is the perfect place to end the day, the height of comfort at the heart of a true wilderness experience. PHOTO DOOK 22

5 SCOTLAND FRESH PERSPECTIVES PHOTO © EXPLORA Adventure travel outfitter Pelorus has paired with travel brand Explora for a series of new land- and sea-based itineraries, starting in September in Scotland with hiking, foraging, star-gazing and much more, including fine dining, in the plans. For true whisky enthusiasts, Diageo Rare & Exceptional has just introduced bespoke journeys for private clients, who will not only have exclusive access to the rarest spirits at the brand’s vaunted distilleries (like the new Talisker space on Skye and the just reopened Brora) but also can incorporate experiences like fly-fishing or playing the standout new Dumbarnie Links near St Andrews. Notable stirrings across the Highlands, Lowlands and islands make for a massive range of new options for travellers on their own, too, from the Michelin-starred Glenturret Lalique restaurant at the famous whisky distillery to trendsetting hotels in Edinburgh like the Gleneagles Townhouse and forthcoming 100 Princes Street. 23
