12 MALLORCA ISLAND BLISS The largest of the Balearic Islands has long since thrown off an undeserved reputation as a downmarket destination, with its capital Palma remaining a beacon for well-travelled (and well-heeled) visitors. What has really helped Mallorca raise the bar further is the development away from the city. Among the beautiful fincas, the vineyards and the olive groves, prime accommodation has sprung up – with Son Bunyola, part of the Virgin Limited Edition collection, set to be the latest addition in the northwest of the island. A 15th-century finca renovated to include three villas and a 26-key hotel, Son Bunyola is surrounded by typically picturesque Mallorcan scenery. Not to be outdone, just 30 minutes from Palma, Son Net will also open this year. 13 PALM BEACH GOOD VIBES ONLY PHOTO © THE COLONY PALM BEACH The Florida hot spot is hotter than ever at the moment, with massive recent renovations to two of its landmark properties: The Colony (pictured) has just celebrated its 75th anniversary with a tip-to-toe reimagining – though the iconic wallpapers have been merely refreshed rather than replaced – and the sprawling Boca Raton is undergoing a 0m upgrade, including a full redesign of the 27-storey coastal Pink Tower. Towards the end of 2023, The Vineta Hotel will also emerge from an extensive makeover, reclaiming its Gilded Age glamour after a remarkable century that saw it transition to private condos (and most recently as The Chesterfield). The PGA National resort has new openings, too, with two novel courses (led by The Match, an 18-hole charmer that encourages competition with roving tee boxes) and a fully revamped, 3,716sq m spa. 33
