15 LAUTERBRUNNEN VALLEY

15 LAUTERBRUNNEN VALLEY SWISS IDYLL Sitting just below the postcard-perfect peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, this Swiss valley has a claim to being the country’s most beautiful, thanks to its sheer limestone cliffs and ever-changing panoramic views. Perched alongside the valley are two of the Alps’ premier car-free ski destinations, Mürren (pictured) and Wengen, both of which are welcoming new hotels as they burnish their credentials for new generations of skiers and hikers. In the former, creative whizz Ramdane Touhami has opened 19-key Drei Berge Hotel, mixing contemporary chic with traditional restoration techniques. Over in Wengen, meanwhile, burgeoning French hotel group Beaumier is reopening one of the three local properties it acquired a few years ago, Grand Hôtel Belvédère, with all-new renovations.
