BLACKBOOK DISPATCH Right, from top: trendy clothes and colourful exterior at the newly opened concept store Excelsior Milano; Armani Silos displays the best of the iconic brand Renaissance art rendered in sculptures on show at the Fondazione Prada different fashions and eras searching for lost or unusual ingredients like Earl Grey tea for the Mar-Tea-Ni or almond syrup for the Cosmopolitan Delight, while the pizzas are from the Neapolitan school, made with the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. Those who prefer haute cuisine in an out-of-the-ordinary context should not miss the brand-new gastro bistro Carlo e Camilla in Segheria (carloecamillainsegheria.it), a collaboration between exhibition curator Tanja Solci and Carlo Cracco, an iconic chef in Italy. Set in a historic sawmill dating back to 1929, the space is equipped with two long wooden tables, glass chandeliers and seating by AG Fronzoni and Jasper Morrison for Cappellini. Here you can sample dishes that reinterpret tradition from a contemporary standpoint. Another designer space, dreamt up by renowned architect Piero Lissoni, is the just-opened Filippo La Mantia, Oste e Cuoco (filippolamantia.com), run by the eatery’s namesake chef from Palermo known for his cuisine rich in Sicilian aromas. His citrus pesto – a blend of orange pulp, basil, capers and olive oil – is a must-try, as is the cous-cous, the chef’s signature dish. WHERE TO SHOP Milan is – and has always been – a shopper’s paradise. A new concept store has opened a stone’s throw away from the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in which shoppers embark on a journey into the world of fashion, the high-tech and culinary excellence. Created by INTRODUCING PORTA NUOVA Revolutionising the Milan skyline, this new district wows with its futuristic skyscrapers right in the centre of the city, in what was once one of the biggest building sites in Europe, with 2,000 workers and projects by 20 architects. At the heart of this Milanese Manhattan are the Unicredit Tower, the Solaria Tower, the Diamond Tower and the Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) apartments with their hanging gardens. The district is rounded off with the spectacular Piazza Gae Aulenti and a huge public park measuring nearly ten hectares. » CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: © FONDAZIONE PRADA; © EXCELSIOR MILANO (2); DAVIDE LOVATTI; ILLUSTRATION BY DANIELE DIELLA 30 DEPARTURES-INTERNATIONAL.COM
