FROM TOP: © FEINEDINGE; MARIA NOISTERNIG VIENNA The jewel of Austria has moved beyond staid antiques and Secession-style staples to updated renditions of the design classics it made famous. by Chloe Malle SIMON & JAKOBER The Heinisch family opened this topaz-coloured store in 2011 as a place to sell organic honey from the family farm. It has since evolved into a miniemporium for all things organic, Austrian-made and difficult to find elsewhere in the city: from noted soapmakers Wiener Seife – the best- selling scents are Blue Danube and Sisi Violet – to linen Brot (bread) bags and dusters made from humanely plucked ostrich feathers. simon-jakober.at FEINEDINGE The millennial answer to the city’s traditional porcelain manufacturers, Porcelain jars from Feinedinge’s Alice collection; below: the table is set at Feinedinge, a Vienna pottery shop this pottery shop occupies a long, bright storefront in the trendy Wieden neighbourhood. There is a reason the name translates to “fine things” – all the pieces, from unglazed onion-shaped teapots to squirreltopped canisters and delicately ribbed espresso cups, are handmade in the back-of-the-store factory, which is visible from the store floor. feinedinge.at SONG Korean owner Myung Il-Song moved her boutique-cum-gallery to the then-sleepy Praterstraße years ago, inspiring a wave of artists and restaurants to follow her to the now-bustling area off the Danube Canal. In the spartan space, she sells a range of stylish goods: the planetlike Dutch earthenware by KH Würtz used at Noma in Copenhagen, Venetian waffle-weave linen towels by Chiarastella Cattana and clothing by Dries Van Noten. There’s also an entire room set aside for Astier de Villatte china. song.at ROSA MOSA The love child of Salzburger Simone Springer and Kyoto-born Yuji Mizobuchi, this accessories line combines traditional artisanal techniques with Brooklyn-friendly styles. Dover Street Market carries their clogs, and Instagram loves the wallets made from repurposed Transylvanian carpets, but the peeledwillow baskets with handles covered in Icelandic shearling are the winners at this two-year-old shop located in the bustling but off-the-beaten-track Mariahilf neighbourhood. rosamosa.com DEPARTURES 29
