30 DEPARTURES TRAVEL ON THE HORIZON Tour de France From springtime in Paris to summer in the Midi and autumn in the Côte d’Or, France’s hottest new hotels cover the full compass. by Lisa Johnson The majestic view from the new Maybourne Riviera in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin The North Good news for sybarites with their sights set on Paris: the city has an array of new five-star hotels, from the Cheval Blanc in the first arrondissement to the Bulgari in the eighth. In October, 61-room hotel Le Grand Mazarin – the fourth property from the family behind Crillon le Brave (maisonspariente.com) – is set to join them in a 14thcentury residence in the Marais. We’re also intrigued by the new-look Hôtel des Academies et des Arts in Montparnasse (hoteldesacademies.fr), a 20-room charmer that doubles as a gallery for artists and an art studio for guests. The strippedback interiors by Stéphanie Lizée and Raphaël Hugot feature an enviable collection of paintings and drawings as well as frescoes by Franck Lebraly, who worked with Lizée on the Hôtel Le Sud in Juan-les-Pins. In the Loire Valley, Christophe Hay already has two Michelin stars – plus one green one – from La Maison d’à Côté. In June, he unveils Fleur de Loire (fleurdeloire.com), an elegantly contemporary, determinedly sustainable 44-key retreat with two restaurants, in a 17th-century hospice in Blois.
