Early Arctic explorers included Erik the Red, a Viking, who discovered Greenland in 983 AD. Since then, many expeditions have reached the North Pole by ship, sled and air. Roald Amundsen flew over in his airship Norge 1 in 1926. Wally Herbert walked there in 1969 and my dear Russian friend Mikhail Mikhailovich Bobrov skied there when he was 75 years old! 8
