6 NEWS / ACTUALITÉS Minister of State Benjamin Griveaux officially inaugurates IFTM Top Resa MAP Pro 2017 The presence of Benjamin Griveaux, Minister of State attached to the Minister of Economy and Finance, at IFTM Top Resa MAP Pro underlines the importance of the tourism industry for Emmanuel Macron government. It’s been a long time since a Ministry of Economy has been present at IFTM Top Resa. The presence of Minister of State Benjamin Griveaux is thus perceived as a strong signal. The tourism and travel industry is indeed perceived as an essential element to generating economic growth and providing jobs for France. Mr. Griveaux underlined the government’s support to the entire tourism and travel industry. With good reasons: according to data from various official institutions, tourism in France generates 7.7% of the country’s GDP and 2 to 2.2 million jobs. The tourism industry grows on average by 5% a year as travel is considered a ‘natural’ leisure activity. Cela faisait bien longtemps qu’il n’y avait pas eu un représentant du ministère de l’Economie en visite à IFTM Top Resa. La présence du Secrétaire d’Etat Benjamin Griveaux est donc un signal fort vis-à-vis de l’industrie du tourisme et des voyages, laquelle est perçue comme un élément essentiel pour générer de la croissance économique et aussi des emplois. M. Griveaux a souligné le soutien accordé par le gouvernement à toute l’industrie du tourisme et des voyages. Avec de bonnes raisons : selon les statistiques officielles, le tourisme en France génère 7.7 % du PIB et de 2 à 2,2 millions d’emplois. Le tourisme continue de croître en moyenne de 5 % chaque année, l’activité voyages étant considérée un loisir “normal”. From January to June 2017, a total of 31,145 French tourists visited the Philippines: an increase of 24.87% compared to January to June 2016. Already at the end of 2016, a total of 55,384 French tourists visited the Philippines, registering a growth rate of 21.71% compared to the total number of tourism arrivals the country welcomed in 2015 (45,505 arrivals). The Philippines are home to some of the most beautiful islands in the world, such as Boracay, Palawan, and Cebu, all of which have been voted by Travel & Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler in their Best Islands in the World lists. The country offers a wide variety of tourism activities, from award-winning beaches to unique culture and traditions, nature and even great night life in the city. Among key attractions are the Banaue Rice Terraces, 2000- year old structures made purely by hand from a tribe in the north as a way of planting rice. The mysterious Chocolate Hills meanwhile might lead one to believe they’re the work of a talented landscaping artist, yet the 1,268 hills were created by nature itself. They originated from the sea and the eroded limestone’s cone-shaped hills were formed millions of years ago from coral and coralline algae. Then there’s the famous Mayon Volcano in Legazpi, Albay, known for its symmetry which forms a perfect triangle… or for fans of diving, the Tubbataha Reef Palawan, a UNESCO world heritage site for the underwater biodiversity. Palawan has large areas of tropical lowlands and rainforest covering a majestic mountain range that stretches across the entire main island.
