L.L. After winning the overall World Cup in 2009, a mountain bike trail in the region was named after you. How often can one actually meet Lisi Osl there in person? And how fit should one be to tackle it? L.O. Of course that’s a great honour for me – even if it still feels a bit strange. However, because I’m out and about all year round I don’t spend much time at home. But when I come home and my training plan permits it I do like to attack the Lisi-Osl-Trail. That usually happens in autumn. And the trail always makes me smile because it’s so much fun. The trail is designed to be feasible for seasoned bikers. The speed is what makes it difficult. “Kitzbühel is my home and I really like it here. From when I was a small child I got to know and learned to appreciate the wonderful mountains.” “The Lisi-Osl-Trail always makes me smile because it’s so much fun.” 52 L.L. Kitzbühel is a varied biking region. What are your favourite trails? L.O. It’s really difficult to decide on one tour, it’s the variety that makes the difference. At the top of my list there is the tour from Westendorf up towards Hohe Salve and then via the trail down to the lake Filzalmsee, back up to the lake Jochenstubensee and then down to Kirchberg via a trail that has an incredible flow, it ends right in front of my door, basically. L.L. When you think of summer in Tyrol, what is the first thing that comes to mind? L.O. Mountain lakes, fresh air and the quiet up there. L.L. You’re the protagonist of the new Tyrol marketing advertising spot. What is it that you liked in particular about Andreas Hafele’s concept? L.O. What I found amazing was the dedication with which Andreas, the director, works and how important sound is to him. I get goosebumps every time I watch that spot.
L.L. How did you experience the shooting of the spot? Would you say that is was easy for you as a top athlete or did you have to face some challenges? L.O. Andreas told me that dawn and sunset had the best light for filming. So we had to be up on the mountain shortly before 5 am. The sun went down at around 9 pm. Those were really long and tiring days. And despite the fact that the crew really tried to show consideration for my physical limits, I really did reach them: the constant stop and go phases made me very tired. It’s easier to follow a training routine. And when we shot in autumn the cold was a factor, too.But of course it was also really good fun. I learned a lot and had interesting experiences. The precision these people work with is incredible and the amount of work behind such a thing also is astonishing. When I watch the spot now I’m simply thankful that I was chosen as its protagonist. L.L. In the spot one does see how tiring training is but there also are relaxed moments. How much time off does the “real” Lisi take? L.O. Honestly, I find it difficult to not do something and just relax. But over the years I have learned that relaxation is crucial when you want to increase your strength. L.L. Great stamina and discipline have brought you a long way. What moment in your career was the most beautiful so far? L.O. Definitely the World Cup victory in 2009. L.L. National and international championships, European Championship, World Championship and Olympia in Rio – 2016 offers one mountain bike highlight after the other. How do you prepare for all these challenges? L.O. I try to be at home as much as possible and train well and consistently and to also take the necessary time off. The mental part is an increasingly big challenge. And it’s also where I see the most potential and something I’m working on. Sport & Freizeit “It was amazing to see the dedication with which Andreas works and how important sound is to him. Watching the spot gives me goosebumps every time.” “Honestly, I find it difficult to not do something and just relax. But over the years I have learned that relaxation is crucial when you want to increase your strength.” “A race is a race and as soon as I have a start number pinned to my shirt I want to be as fast as possible.” “There are many amazing spots for biking, in Switzerland, Canada or anywhere in Scandinavia. But the most beautiful place still is home.” 53
