in a news nutshell

in a news nutshell zurück zum Inhalt IBC Future Zone Every year the Future Zone brings together the latest ideas, innovations and concept technologies from international industry & academia. In this issue we present two of the exhibitors, one from France, bcom, and a start-up from Hungary, Duelbox. The bcom Technology Research Institute demonstrated its SDR to HDR technology, which was the NAB Show 2017 Technology Innovation Award winner. The HDR2SDR technology is a smart way to produce a backward compatible SDR signal from HDR content produced in BT.2100-PQ, BT.2100-HLG or Slog3. Thanks to the award-winning bcom SDR2HDR solution, the conversion is perfectly reversible. When cascading the two conversion operations (SDR to HDR or HDR to SDR), the resulting video is visually identical to the original source. The HDR2SDR technology is available in two different formats: CPU- Intel library currently available on 64-bit Linux or 64- bit Windows and VHDL IP Core for multi-vendor FGPA for real-time use or acceleration board in a server. Furthermore bcom introduced a set of audio plugins enabling the creation of immersive contents and experiences. Relying on the Higher Order Ambisonics (HOA) technology, the „Spatial Audio Toolbox“- plugins provide a complete workflow, from capture to rendering on headphones or multi-loudspeaker setups. HOA makes it easy to play back complex sound scenes binaurally with headtracking and has become the audio technology of choice for the growing areas of Virtual and Augmented Reality. bcom´s Ultra Marker video watermarking technology features high robustness to any video processing and attacks (lossy compression, N/A conversion, camcording, etc.), supports 4K, HDR, HFR and 360° video and embeds state-of-the-art ID codes to fight collaborative piracy. The Ultra Marker technology uses two steps for ID embedding. The first step is done once per media and consists of computing a watermarking metadata stream. This stream must be transmitted with multimedia data (using multiplexing or a dedicated channel). Its computation is fast enough (about 250 fps - 1080p - on an Intel i7 processor) to be embedded in a real time video encoder. The additional necessary bandwidth is about 1 Kbps for 30 fps video. The second step uses the watermark stream to embed a unique ID within the baseband frame using very few computing resources. Shortly after IBC bcom published the White paper: AR, the next wave is here, which is available to the public. Augmented Reality (AR) has experienced a new craze due to the significant increase in sensing and processing capabilities available to smartphones and tablets. But is AR mature enough for widespread use and mass adoption? Duelbox Second Screen SDR to HDR by bcom This white paper focusing on AR for industrial needs presents use cases which can already be addressed with existing devices, as long as the remaining R&D challenges and the most promising evolutions we can expect in the years to come. This white paper was drafted by experts in augmented reality technologies, who are members of the bcom Hypermedia team: Jérôme Royan, Hypermedia Principal Architect, Muriel Deschanel, Hypermedia Business Development Director and Nicole Le Minous, Project Manager. With special contributions from Antonin Gilles, holography expert, and Martin Ragot on usage and acceptability features. Download: Founded in 2012, bcom © Duelbox is a tech provider and an innovation accelerator for every business that uses digital to increase its competitiveness. bcom brings together multi-cultural disciplines and talents in augmented reality, virtual reality, and immersive media formats, in the fields of applied artificial intelligence, cyber security, 5G networks, Internet of Things, cognitive technologies, and e-health. The young Budapest based interactive solutions provider Duelbox © bcom premiered its cloud-based SaaS second screen solution, which offers a wide perspective of interactive tools and games for content creators, broadcasters, Youtubers and vloggers. “It’s a comprehensive system built on an award-winning technology that opens an easy way for content creators to live interactivity and engagement with their audience through an easy-to-use platform.
