A current parent perspective on the UK's top schools

INSIDE SCOOP Elstree School Woolhampton, Berkshire, RG7 5TD Admissions: 0118 971 3302 • Day/Full 3-13 SE As parents, we love: The stunning grounds give boys the opportunity to play a variety of sports against other schools. The music department allows the boys to try different instruments and join a variety of groups. The boarding is gentle but gives the boys more independence and they love it. The Inside Scoop from a current parent… We looked at a number of schools for our sons and mostly chose Elstree on gut feeling. It is small but not too small and very nurturing. Elstree is surrounded by amazing grounds with fabulous facilities. They are academically ambitious for the boys, but still value the importance of ‘letting boys be boys’. The flexi boarding was also a real draw. My sons have become so much more confident since joining Elstree and more willing to try new things. The smaller classes mean that my boys have been able to come out of their shell and be challenged to the best of their ability. The teachers have a wealth of experience and have a knack of getting the best out of each boy. Our children love: The Science Department. It is amazing for a prep school and they enjoy all the experiments. Boarding. They provide great support and he really loves all of the activities on offer. Activities from Scottish dancing to shooting, fencing, chess and golf. HEADS UP “At Elstree we are academically ambitious and provide a first class all-round education. The emphasis is on building confidence, developing talent and maximising potential and we are immensely proud of our strong Common Entrance and Scholarship record.” Sid Inglis, Headmaster Open days: 11th May 2019 or contact the registrar. 32 Read the full review on ★ 2019

INSIDE SCOOP Farleigh School Red Rice, Andover, Hants, SP11 7PW Admissions: 01264 712838 • Day/Flexi/Weekly/Full 3-13 The Inside Scoop from a current parent… Farleigh is simply unique. Chosen for its Catholic ethos and after endles recommendations, we have been astounded by the school. Each child is seen as an individual, nurtured and encouraged at all times. The children have the most deep-set sense of right and wrong instilled in them from the moment they arrive, which creates kind, confident and happy children who seek to help others and find joy in the achievements of others. At the same time, they are quietly driven, with a whole array of areas at which to succeed from the obvious academic or sporting, through to drama and the arts, to more subtle things, such as courtesy or just always having a smile on their face. SW As parents, we love: The pastoral care – it’s written all over their faces: these children are happy and that is of number one importance to a parent. Fr Simon’s unique position as a priest, husband and parent gives him a great understanding and makes him a fantastic listener and Headmaster. The music department is exceptional. Our children love: Fortress Farleigh, the play area in the grounds which feels like an adventure playground. The open air concert ‘Summer Soirée’ with picnics, playing and giggling between performances. Friends made at Farleigh are friends for life. HEADS UP “Farleigh School is a place of energy and spirited enquiry. Children of all abilities thrive in the warm and safe environment which values every individual, offers countless opportunities and prepares them for senior school and beyond..” Fr Simon Everson, Headmaster Open days: Open mornings held twice a year on a Saturday, call or email the Registrar: 01264 712838. 2019 ★ Read the full review on 33
