A current parent perspective on the UK's top schools

INSIDE SCOOP St George’s School Windsor Castle Datchet Road, Windsor, SL4 1QF Admissions: 01753 865553 • Day/Flexi/Weekly/Full 3-13 SE As parents, we love: The confidence that the school instils in the children is incredible. The sport, music and extra-curricular activities. The dedicated and caring nature of the school. The Inside Scoop from a current parent… St George’s, set in the grounds of Windsor Castle, is a very special school. After eleven years as parents, we believe that both our children have had an exceptional start – they have had the space, time and nurturing environment to mature into confident, caring and responsible children, with a healthy competitive spirit. They both got into their firstchoice senior school, both competed at a high level in a number of sports, both sang in the Chamber Choir and participated in numerous school productions. This is not a ‘hot house’ prep school, it is a true ‘allround’ school. Assemblies are held in St George’s Chapel and older children can flexi-board as much or as little as they wish. St George’s brilliantly prepares children to be responsible and happy adults. Our children love: Sports lessons and competitive matches against other schools. Good facilities and a local school meaning local friends that they can hang out with. Singing in the Queen’s chapel. HEADS UP “With a unique heritage and music running through its heart, St George’s School Windsor Castle champions courage, curiosity, creativity and kindness. We instil a passion for learning and adventure, preparing our children to be critical thinkers, fit for the workplace of the future.” William Goldsmith, Head Master Open days: 4th October 2019. 78 Read the full review on ★ 2019

INSIDE SCOOP St Mary’s Calne St Mary’s School, Calne, Wiltshire, SN11 0DF Admissions: 01249 857206 • Day/Full 11-18 SW The Inside Scoop from a current parent… When choosing our next school, we were looking for one that educates girls holistically – encouraging academic achievement and excellence within a strongly nurturing environment. Our first visit to St Mary’s Calne gave us a clear sense of that, more so than any other school we have visited before or since…and our experience, with two (very different) daughters at the school, has proven that to be the case. Our girls arrived at St Mary’s as young girls and are turning into highly engaged, inspired, independent young women with a very clear sense of their place in the world and strong determination to play a full part in it. The amazing spirit that St Mary’s engenders allows this to happen. As parents, we love: The flexibility to cater for very different children’s skills, abilities and talents. Support given academically, building independence and achieving their ambitions. The leadership of the school – sets the tone in pursuit of what one might call “excellence with compassion”. Our children love: The culture of the school. The horizontal boarding (i.e in year groups) throughout the school. The depth of friendships they are making. HEADS UP “St Mary’s Calne provides exceptional all-round education for girls in a warm and nurturing environment, coupled with outstanding pastoral care and an enviable extra-curricular programme, with over 60 clubs and activities to enjoy.” Dr Felicia Kirk, Headmistress Open days: 11th May, 19th October and 9th November 2019. 2019 ★ Read the full review on 79
