A current parent perspective on the UK's top schools

INSIDE SCOOP Wychwood School 74 Banbury Road, Oxford, OX2 6JR Admissions: 01865 557976 • Day/Flexi/Weekly/Full 11-18 The Inside Scoop from a current parent… Wychwood immediately stood out for me, the girls are happy, staff are open, friendly and clearly care about the girls and the school. There is a pride in what the school does. Small really is beautiful: if the going gets tricky, the girls learn to sort things out, negotiate their way to the next stage and move on – all valuable lessons! My daughter has grown in confidence and is eager to give things a go. Her sense of self is more developed, and she is happy. Everything flows from that. Wychwood is mindful not to overload the girls. Nobody is overlooked, and all are encouraged. Communication is open and Wychwood is able to be flexible and accommodate special interests or needs. SE As parents, we love: The sense of belonging felt by the girls. The quality of the relationships throughout the school, including parents, Old Girls and the Governors. The minimising of an ‘institutional’ approach: this is an education based on the best interests of the pupils and teachers. Our children love: The sense of community: they know everybody. They are well supported when they need it. They just have so much fun. HEADS UP “We know each childs’ strengths and weaknesses. We help when needed, praise and recognise the many achievements great and small and exhort and remind when necessary. Our small size means we can offer far superior individual challenge and pastoral care.” Andrea Johnson, Headmistress Open days: 21 September 2019, 26 February 2020. 88 Read the full review on ★ 2019

INSIDE SCOOP Wycombe Abbey Abbey Way, High Wycombe, Bucks, HP11 1PE Admissions: 01494 897008 • SE Day/Full 11-18 The Inside Scoop from a current parent… The perception that Wycombe Abbey is an academic hothouse is wrong. Whilst it does have strong exam results, this is due to the excellent teachers who are passionate about their subjects and convey a love of learning to their students. Every child is really known, supported and nurtured. Girls really do have fun. A central theme is that happy children learn better and partake more fully. Outside of academics, whether it is sport, music, drama, dance, debating or fascinating guest speakers, there is something for everyone. Our children have become organised, have a “give things a go” attitude and a desire to be curious. The school is focused on developing the whole child and it does this within a culture of joy, respect and care. As parents, we love: How much fun our children have with varied and amazing weekend activities. A strong focus on the well-being of the girls. The school having a good relationship with the all the parents. Our children love: The strong house spirit. The girls are very proud of their house. The mixed age dorms, the older girls like being a house mother to the younger girls. Being in nature every day and barbeque night every Wednesday in the summer! HEADS UP “We have a long tradition of academic excellence, but we are also committed to providing a very wide range of opportunities for intellectual interest and development outside the classroom, collaborating together in a spirit we call ‘Oneness and Joy” Rhiannon Wilkinson, Headmistress Open days: 14 September 2019, 6 June 2020. 2019 ★ Read the full review on 89
