That dedication has shaped TWU into the nation’s first and only woman-focused university system. She came to Texas Woman’s without her family, leaving behind five children and a husband in her home country, Zambia. Today, she is the first woman in Zambia to have earned a PhD in speech therapy, has established the country’s first speech pathology rehabilitation center, and started Zambia’s first bachelor’s program in speech and language pathology. I want to be an example to my children that it’s okay to make sacrifices for a greater purpose. This is my mission. I’m not doing this for myself. I’m doing it for my country and for my people. Elevate Your Station From climbing the peaks of the world’s tallest mountains, including a two-week rapid ascent of Mt. Everest, to 100-mile ultra marathons, Roxanne Gonzales-Vogel uses her research in exercise and sports nutrition to push her body to its athletic limits. You can do hard things, and you can surprise yourself. It’s just a matter of breaking things down into smaller achievable goals. 1st in Texas (tied) for campus ethnic diversity (U.S. News & World Report) Named a Best College for Students with Children in the nation (intelligent.com) Work alongside notable faculty-mentors conducting research that contributes to your field of study Thought leadership [gives] my scholarship and interests a platform to be heard.
