In high latitudes, the summer sun never sets. In winter it never rises, but in the northern night sky we saw the spectacular northern lights called the aurora borealis. The Svalbard archipelago is governed by Norway. Cats are prohibited, but in Barentsburg our guide Ivan introduced us to huge Kesha, who sneaked in registered as an Arctic fox! 14
