THE RESTAURANT | DECK 2 INGEBORG STANA 1968 X NORWAY X LITHOGRAPHY In her artistic work, Ingeborg Stana seeks to interpret the nature that surrounds her. She is known for her grand paintings of sky and cloud studies, and with these images, she explores both philosophical and environmental questions: What is moving and what is permanent? Where does the heaven end, and where does the horizon begin? Stana sees natural beauty as something unparalleled. This becomes evident in her quiet, pristine landscapes, where clouds and the atmosphere collide. Some have argued that her paintings deal with melancholy; others have argued that they talk about death. Stana herself hopes that people will see what they seek in her heavens, something more than just beauty. IN THE WOODS | 2005 46

THE RESTAURANT | DECK 2 HANNE MAY SCHEEN 1960 X NORWAY X ETCHING Observations of the natural world are the inspiration for Norwegian artist Hanne May Scheen’s work, which she describes as an abstracted version of traditional landscape painting. She features foregrounds and backgrounds represented with lines and streaks, emphasizing movement. She seldom uses specific landscapes in order to lead the audience into the abstract world she has created. Scheen has built a large following from decades of solo exhibitions at major galleries across Norway and as far afield as Australia. OLTRARNO II BLU | 2010 47
