I NEWS I UCVF brings new brands to Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris 2023 The Union Commerciale des Vins de France (UCVF), a leading importer of exclusive spirits and champagnes, is presenting its expanding portfolio of more than 30 partners and exclusive brands. The Union has boosted its portfolio of innovative brands in a bid to stay ahead of France’s booming cocktail culture with the recent additions of Sir Edmond Gin and La Summerhall Distillery Limited. Founded in the 1980s, the UCVF markets several categories of spirits including a wide selection of rums (Auténtico Nativo, Kong, Neptune, Labourdonnais…), of gins (Moletto, Purity, Ukiyo, Knut Hansen…), whiskeys (Black Irish, Nelcius, Clan Denny...), tequilas/ mezcals (Ojo de Tigre, Arette…) or even vodkas and liqueurs. Commenting on its latest partnerships, Joris van Gent, Managing Director at UCVF, said: “We are excited to join forces with Sir Edmond Gin, with its historic French connection, and bring something special to the world of spirits that will leave a lasting impression.” The Bourbon vanilla infused gin, made in Schiedam, The Netherlands, will be distributed through UCVF's extensive network of wine merchants, hotel and restaurant owners, and specialists across France. Earlier this year, the UCVF teamed up with Summerhall Distillery Limited, for its new blended scotch whiskey produced in Edinburgh, The Broody Hen. "Today, The Broody Hen adds a new building block to UCVF and our ambition over the coming years to challenge the leading independent distributors", says Sébastien Peyssonneaux, Ranges Manager exclusive at UCVF. I NEWS I The Marianne has been optional since 2019 The capsule-congé or Marianne capsule is formally known as "Capsule Représentative de Droit" (or CRD). These capsules are colour coded to distinguish a wine's level of appellation and marked with the seal of Marianne. These marking only have a legal significance in France. Made compulsory in 1960, it attests that the circulation rights or excise duties have been paid to French customs. The purpose of this tax was to discourage the consumption of certain products considered harmful to people's health (wine, tobacco, coffee, foie gras and even certain luxury vehicles). THE MARIANNE CAPSULE DOOMED TO DISAPPEAR The legal requirement was lifted on June 1, 2019, although bottles of wine without it must nevertheless circulate with an accompanying document in France. However, it turns out the vast majority of winemakers have not been informed by their unions. Being able to substitute the CRD has given operators in the wine industry a chance to come up with alternative ways of ensuring the traceability of the product while greatly simplifying bottling and storage processes. Administrative simplification, easier inventory management, significant reduction of carbon impact and substantial gain in competitiveness for exports. These are just some of the many advantages of using documents instead of the CRD © Tristan Gassert - Unsplash Champagne sector to make sparkling appearance at Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris 2023 Meet the 204 champagne exhibitors at this year's event and discover the latest trends in the world of fizz based on research by IWSR-Wine Intelligence.
