I SNEAK PEEKS I Journey’s End and Interpunkt team up for sustainable wine range Abelé 1757 A historic Champagne House blending tradition and innovation at Vinexpo Asia 2023 Abelé Champagne, the fifth oldest Champagne House, will be present at this year’s Vinexpo Asia in Singapore. When Nicolas Feuillatte Group bought the Maison Abelé in 2019, it was a priority for the company to preserve and highlight the unique values of the historic Champagne house. La Maison Abelé became Abelé 1757, in reference to the year the winery was founded. Along with the new name, the brand also got a new logo inspired by the architecture of its historic cellars. When Etienne Eteneau took over the reins in 2021 as cellar master, he subscribed to this vision for a new chapter. Award-winning winery Journey’s End and new wine brand Interpunkt are launching a new range of W.O. Western Cape Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz wines available exclusively at Checkers. What sets this brand apart is its forwardthinking packaging made from 100% recyclable paperboard–the first in South Africa. The packaging is not only sustainable, but also five times lighter than a normal glass bottle, helping lower its carbon footprint. The brand aims to make wine more accessible and inclusive by removing the intimidating language often used on labels. The goal is to allow consumers to enjoy wine without taking themselves too seriously Level B2 / Stand L 006 Tenuta San Vincenti wines at Vinexpo Asia 2023 Abelé 1757 has a surprising history rooted in innovation. Antoine de Muller, Henri Abelé’s grandfather and Cellar Master of Maison Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin, invented the riddling table, which revolutionised the method of making champagne. When in 1880 Henri Abelé wanted to expand the Champagne house he had inherited, he moved it to a new address in the heart of Reims. This concealed a winemaking treasure: two kilometres of chalk cellars, dug by hand in the raw rock and limestone. These dark underground cellars buried 20 metres deep were the ideal environment for conserving and ageing bottles, providing darkness, constant temperature and stable humidity levels. This centuries-old laboratory of innovation became the heart of Abelé’s creation, in a unique landscape now classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Tenuta San Vincenti winery is located in the Chianti Classico area in Tuscany, near the historical hamlet of San Vincenti, in the Stignano locality. The estate covers over 60 hectares and has a breathtaking view of Monte Amiata and the Crete Senesi hills in one of the most renowned winemaking locations in the world. The vineyards themselves are on a hilly ridge oriented north to south at an altitude ranging from 350 to 550 metres above sea level, with south-eastern and south-western exposure. San Vincenti will have wines available for tasting at booth K001 in the Italian area at Vinexpo Asia 2023 Level B2 / Stand K 001 Over two and a half centuries after its creation, Abelé 1757 is reinventing itself. While reaffirming its history and connection with Reims, it continues to look to the future and put innovation at the heart of its winemaking. Abelé 1757 makes heritage champagnes including their signature Abelé 1757 brut, the more delicate and fruity Abelé 1757 brut rosé and their 100% Chardonnay blanc de blancs for a fresh, aromatic experience.
