NEWS EDITOR I Didn’t Know That… This editorial pays homage to the phrase that is repeated countless times every day all around the show. OF COURSE even the most knowledgeable buff cannot know everything about every exhibitor at Vinexpo. Thus, being modest, one admits the fact. It is the reason we are all here no doubt: to learn something new with every meeting – and many a tasting. In today’s feature interview, François Le Grelle, Managing Director, Cognac Hine, explains that attitudes towards what constitutes a “good” product are extremely divergent from one country to another: thus the need for education. Both upstream and downstream in the sales and marketing process, this has never been truer as countless newcomers enter the business, and certain cultures open up to wines and spirits of which they had little knowledge before. Vinexpo itself with its Academy programme is a key element in the education and information gathering process; then there are the wine schools, and such establishments as the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), which is forging new territory when it comes to educating a broad range of industry players. Only through information and education can an industry grow, as the right decisions will be made all the way down the line, and the end consumer will be happier with his or her choice. Our aim with this publication, in total harmony with the spirit of Vinexpo (pardon the pun) is to help complete the puzzle, and give you, the industry professional, some of the key information you need in order to make the right decisions. We hope we have fulfilled this role and look forward to your comments and feedback. And don’t forget to look out for our REVIEW EDITION – online – at the end of next week. Happy reading.
