2 Fireproof cables in accordance with EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) Scope of the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) No. 305/2011 for cables With the aim of the European Union to improve the safety of houses and public buildings, a system for the classification of construction products has been appropriately developed according to the relevant fire behaviour. This applies throughout Europe within the scope of the Construction Products Regulation of 2011 or CPR, as it is abbreviated in English. By means of a comprehensive certification system, the standard ensures that only approved products are used in the construction sector. It specifies the classification of cables and electrical lines in specific classifications of fire behaviour (Euro classes from B2ca to Fca), establishes the requirements for the required appropriate test methods and procedures and determines to what extent the involvement of a notified body is required in each individual fire behaviour classification. It also requires the CE marking of cables. XBK-KABEL already has cable constructions these days that contain high-quality materials which ensure improved fire behaviour of cables and electrical lines and thus contribute to the safety of humans. In the case of fire, less smoke and toxic gases are produced. This means better visibility and improved chances to escape from the fire as well as a reduced danger for rescue workers. The application of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) must be implemented by 1st July 2017. This regulation is binding for all member states since it has entered into force on 1st July 2013, and cables, which are permanently installed in the building and for which harmonised European standards on the basis of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) also applies, are now also included in this regulation. Classification of cables as a construction product According to the definition of the European Commission and the European Court of Justice, a cable is only considered as a construction product within the meaning of the Construction Products Regulation, if it cannot be removed from the building without any associated construction work. This is especially the case if the cables are installed flush-mounted or in permanently installed cable ducts. Implementation deadline for EN 50575 EN 50575 has entered into force on 1st July 2016. However, its actual implementation is subject to an implementation period until 30th June 2017. Hence, the date of the first delivery of XBK-KABEL to the respective European customers is decisive for the fulfilment of the applicable statutory requirements. XBK-KABEL

Fireproof cables in accordance with EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) 3 Therefore, if a product is placed on the market before 1st July 2017 without complying with the requirements of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and is subsequently resold within the EU after this date, the reseller behaves absolutely lawfully: Since the cable was already brought onto the market in compliance with the standards and guidelines, the subsequent distributors in the distribution chain can also resell the cable after 01st July 2017 without the obligatory data and documentation of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Products that have been introduced on the market for the first time by 30th June 2017 do therefore not require documentation in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and EN 50575. Euroclasses of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) On the basis of the Commission’s delegated regulation (EU) 2016/364 of 1st July 2015 on the classification of the fire behaviour of construction products, a single and unique criterion for the classification within the EU was created. In order to be able to determine the reaction to fire, different classes with the criteria for the classification were defined, depending on the heat release in the case of fire. In addition, it is also intended that the manufacturer can use the „no performance determined“ option (Euroclass Fca), if no conditions are specified for reaction to fire.
