Governance
Mana whakahaere
In 2021/22 Aktive was governed by
an eight-member Board, chaired
by Graham Child and supported by
trustees Dr Denise Atkins, Penny
Hulse, Shelley Katae, Dr Mataroria
Lyndon, Peter Meehan, Rohini Ram,
and David Tse. Jason Shoebridge
joined the Board on 1 November
2021 as Peter Meehan retired having
reached his maximum term. This
group has considerable and diverse
sport, recreation, health, education,
business and governance expertise
and experience.
Subcommittees and
Advisory Groups
In line with best practice governance,
an audit and risk committee, as well
as a health and safety subcommittee,
chaired by Peter Meehan then by Jason
Shoebridge, meet on a bimonthly basis.
A cornerstone of our mahi is to engage
collaboratively with a range of central
government and regional stakeholders.
To support this, advisory groups have
been formed with experts serving
voluntarily.
Aktive is proud to have a
Māori Advisory Group:
Dr Mataroria Lyndon (Co Chair);
Shelley Katae (Co Chair); Ayla Hoeta;
Mace Ward, Auckland Council (ex-officio);
Martin Mariassouce, Te Puni Kōkiri
(ex-officio).
Aktive's role in pulling key agencies together in the
2021 lockdown to support a return to play plan was a
massive boost, as was the Working Together funding
considering we were deep in the Northern Region
Football merger process. Looking forward, Aktive's
mahi on our FIFA WWC 2023 legacy plan and Women
in Leadership programme to develop our talented
wahine is so appreciated.”

Outgoing Chair Graham Child
As this Annual Report goes to print,
Graham Child will be approaching
retirement from his position on the
Aktive Board having reached his
maximum term. Graham has been a
member of the Board since Aktive’s
establishment and Chair since 1 July
2018. His experience, connections and
unwavering commitment to realising
Aktive’s vision has been an immense
asset and his passion and commitment
will be missed. We wish Graham every
success in the future.
