40th ARC welcomes back ‘first-timers’

The World Cruising Club’s transatlantic rally, the ARC, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The first running in 1986 – the brainchild of Jimmy Cornell, with the support of Yachting World’s then-editor Dick Johnson – attracted 204 entries from 24 countries. It was expanded in 2013 to include a sister rally, ARC+, via Cape Verde, and there was briefly a third rally, starting in January, pre-pandemic.
