No more par 5s

It was interesting reading the comments of Fergus Bisset and Jeremy Ellwood regarding Hideki Matsuyama winning with 35-under-par. Both interesting opinions, but surely a simple point is being missed here. Today’s professionals hit the ball so far that par 5s are effectively redundant. It’s not necessary to make changes to clubs and balls – just make the cut-off point from par 4 to par 5 625 yards or even 650 yards.
