The former Miss America was born in 1963 and found success as a Grammy-nominated R&B singer before turning to acting with roles as magazine diva Wilhelmina Slater (inset) in Ugly Betty (2006-10) and troublemaker Renee Perry in Desperate Housewives (2010-12).
