Patient dies after Russian attack on NHS blood supplies

One patient died as a result of a 2024 cyber-attack by a Russian gang on hospital blood services, the King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed. The crime syndicate Qilin claimed responsibility for the attack on 3 June 2024, which infected computers run by Synnovis – which runs blood tests for the NHS – with ransomware. It meant the company was unable to match donor blood to patients safely, forcing hospitals to cancel procedures, delay treatments and rely on emergency supplies....
