Brother has urged customers to change their default passwords on printers after researchers found they were too easy for hackers to guess. Analysts at US security firm Rapid7 claim they worked out the method Brother used for creating the passwords, which involves the printer’s serial number. Hackers can then exploit one flaw (CVE-2024-51977) to leak the printer’s serial number before taking advantage of another (CVE-2024-51978) to generate the password.
