This morning I brought my little group of walkers to a halt because a Lime Hawk-moth caterpillar was wriggling across our path. It was an exciting discovery, as none of us had ever seen one before, let alone the adult moth. Adults fly briefly, at night, from May to beginning of July, without the need to feed during their short lives. Their sole purpose is to mate and produce the next generation.
