Caerlaverock Dumfriesshire Each autumn, this reserve on the shores of the Solway Firth prepares for some very special visitors. Around 30,000 barnacle geese descend from their Arctic breeding grounds to overwinter in Caerlaverock’s 1,400 acres of mudflats and reed beds. It’s a spectacular sight.
