Mawdo is zich ervan bewust dat zijn uiteindelijke doel om een eigen
krant te runnen tijd nodig heeft. Om in de tussentijd zekerheid te hebben
over een inkomen is hij van plan om een taxi aan te schaffen. Hiermee
zal het gezin in ieder geval huisvesting en schoolgeld kunnen betalen.
De materialen uit Nederland zal Mawdo gebruiken voor zijn hoofddoel.
Hij hoopt ook snel geld apart te kunnen leggen voor een drukpers en
collega-journalisten te ontmoeten die ook zijn teruggekeerd.
Zijn dochtertje is inmiddels zes, spreekt vloeiend Nederlands en heeft
allerlei vriendinnetjes in Lelystad. Ze kan zich Gambia niet meer herinneren.
"Ik kan niet wachten om haar al het moois van Gambia te laten zien:
de cultuur, de rivier, de pindasoep van haar oma... Ze zal verder opgroeien
in een land dat weer een toekomst heeft."
Mawdo knows that his ultimate goal of running his own newspaper needs
time. In order to have certainty about an income during that process his
plan is to purchase a taxi. That way the family will in any case be able to
pay for housing and school fees. Mawdo will use the materials from the
Netherlands for his main goal. He also hopes to be able to put money
aside for a printing press and to meet fellow journalists who have also
returned.
His daughter is now six, fluent in Dutch and has all kinds of girlfriends in
Lelystad. She does not know Gambia anymore. "I cannot wait to show
her the beauty of Gambia: the culture, the river, her grandmother's peanut
soup... She will grow up in a country that has a future again."

Sinds 2010 hebben IOM en
Stichting WereldWijd een samenwerkingsverband.
IOM zorgt in
het land van herkomst voor de
inklaring van een kist die door
Stichting WereldWijd gevuld is met
materialen voor het opstarten van
een bedrijfje. Ook zorgt Stichting
WereldWijd eventueel voor een
vakopleiding voorafgaand aan
vertrek. IOM helpt terugkeerders
verder bij de implementatie van het
herintegratieplan in het land van
herkomst.
Since 2010 IOM and WereldWijd
Foundation are partners. IOM takes
care of the clearance in the country
of origin of a box that is filled by
WereldWijd Foundation with materials
for starting up a small business.
WereldWijd Foundation can also
provide vocational trainings prior to
departure. IOM further helps returnees
with the implementation of the
reintegration plan in the country of
origin.
