Tiina Tammetalu (b. 1961, graduated from the Estonian SSR State Art Institute, has
been exhibiting since 1987). In her painting practice her interest is to experiment
with the interaction and persistence of historical and modern techniques; to study
the ability of traditional techniques to speak to a modern audience. In the painting
series “Estonian Landscape”, created over two decades, Tammetalu has developed an
original style, technique and theme that is organically related to the artist’s author’s
technique in painting and a concept based on personal experience throughout the
series. The inspiration for the series comes from the author’s habitats in different periods,
so that each “landscape” can be linked to a specific address in Estonia.
Tiina Tammetalu: “I feel that the ground is sublime in any way. I can’t criticize the
ground in any way, because I like it in every way. I don’t create a traditional picture
landscape in” Estonian landscapes “but I depict and recreate the surface as with a
religious tone for me.
I myself have always considered these “clay and soil” paintings to belong to the field
of religious art.” Tammetalu is member of the Estonian Artists ‘Association and
Estonian Painters’ Association.
Represented at the exhibition with 26 works.
