This article aims to show the results obtained during the intervention project carried<br />

out in 2008 with the first year stu<strong>de</strong>nts of Colégio Dr. Sebastião Paraná (higher<br />

education institution), located in Wenceslau Braz, state of Paraná. It was <strong>de</strong>veloped<br />

after theoretical studies conducted during 2007 in Programa <strong>de</strong> Desenvolvimento<br />

Educacional – PDE (Continuing Education Program created by Paraná Government).<br />

Thus, the project used in the learning and teaching English process new practices in<br />

or<strong>de</strong>r to improve stu<strong>de</strong>nts’ learning. The project gave priority to oral communication<br />

and was <strong>de</strong>veloped in contra turno (different classroom time). It was verified that the<br />

stu<strong>de</strong>nts’ motivation to learn English increased. It is also possible to conclu<strong>de</strong> that<br />

stu<strong>de</strong>nts need that teachers create new teaching and learning methodologies to<br />

match their expectations and motivate them to learn English which will contribute not<br />

just to English learning but to their general education as well.<br />

1. INTRODUÇÃO<br />

O Programa <strong>de</strong> Desenvolvimento Educacional – PDE é uma proposta<br />

inovadora no <strong>Estado</strong> do Paraná, cujo objetivo é a formação continua<strong>da</strong> dos<br />

Professores <strong>da</strong> Re<strong>de</strong> Pública do <strong>Estado</strong> do Paraná, proporcionando-lhes a<br />

oportuni<strong>da</strong><strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> atualizar e aprofun<strong>da</strong>r conhecimentos teórico-práticos, que lhes<br />

permitirão contribuir para mu<strong>da</strong>nças na prática escolar <strong>da</strong> <strong>Educação</strong> Básica<br />

paranaense.<br />

Dentro <strong>de</strong>ssa perspectiva, os professores do <strong>Estado</strong> do Paraná tem agora a<br />

oportuni<strong>da</strong><strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> implementar projetos voltados para o <strong>de</strong>senvolvimento <strong>de</strong> novas<br />

práticas docentes na sala <strong>de</strong> aula.<br />

Assim sendo, o projeto <strong>de</strong> intervenção proposto e implementado no ano <strong>de</strong><br />

2008, após estudos teóricos realizados sob a orientação <strong>de</strong> professores <strong>da</strong><br />

Universi<strong>da</strong><strong>de</strong> Estadual <strong>de</strong> Ponta Grossa no transcorrer do ano <strong>de</strong> 2007, teve como<br />

objetivo utilizar práticas didáticas diferencia<strong>da</strong>s na disciplina <strong>de</strong> língua inglesa.<br />

Verifica-se que um dos obstáculos no ensino <strong>da</strong> Língua Estrangeira Mo<strong>de</strong>rna<br />

que permeia os ambientes educativos é a dificul<strong>da</strong><strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> participação <strong>de</strong> todos os<br />

alunos nas ativi<strong>da</strong><strong>de</strong>s propostas, principalmente no que se refere à orali<strong>da</strong><strong>de</strong>.<br />
