A microestrutura destes aços
Austenitic valve steels can be applied in the manufacturing of exhaust
valves for internal combustion engines which are exposed to service
temperatures up to 870ºC. Generally these steels are applied as base
material for coated valves which demand extreme mechanical da corrosion
resistance at high temperatures.
The microstructure of these steels is fundamentally austenitic due principally
to the presence of nickel, manganese and nitrogen. In this steel class the
high contents of carbon and nitrogen usually proportionate the precipitation
hardening of carbides and nitrides, which are obtained after adequate
heat treatments of solution annealing and aging. There are also present,
in the austenitic steels class, the steels with high nickel contents which
are hardened by intermetallic precipitation in order to provide a superior
mechanical, corrosion and wear resistances at high temperatures.
