In the whole group the mean BDNF level was 2.26 ± 1.32 ng/ml, in PPAD group was<br />

2.08 ± 1.32 ng/ml, of suicidality was 1.56 ± 1.36 ng/ml and the mean of BDNF levels in<br />

women without suici<strong>de</strong> risk were 2.33 ±1.30 ng/ml. Women with PPAD and suicidality had<br />

mean BDNF levels of 1.50 ±1.38 ng/ml. Mothers who experienced two or less SLEs had<br />

mean serum BDNF levels of 2.33 ± 1.30 ng/ml and those who experienced three or more<br />

SLEs of 1.64 ± 1.43 ng/ml (table 1).<br />

In bivariate analysis there is no association between PPAD subjects without suici<strong>de</strong><br />

risk and BDNF levels (2.14 ± 1.40 ng/ml; F=0.44. p=0.506). Lower BDNF levels were<br />

associated with suici<strong>de</strong> risk (p=0.02). The serum BDNF levels in those women with PPADs<br />

presenting suici<strong>de</strong> risk (n=14) were significantly lower than in those women without suici<strong>de</strong><br />

risk (F=5.02, p=0.02) (Figure 1A). The serum BDNF levels in PPAD and with suici<strong>de</strong> risk<br />

and <strong>de</strong>pression, mania and mixed episo<strong>de</strong>s were 1.68 ± 1.50 ng/ml, 1.46 ± 1.67 ng/ml and<br />

1.39 ± 1.65 ng/ml, respectively (Figure 1B).<br />

There were no significant differences in the serum BDNF levels in women with<br />

PPADs presenting suici<strong>de</strong> risk according to their particular episo<strong>de</strong>s (F= 0.101, P= 0.75).<br />

There is not association between the serum BDNF levels in women with only anxiety<br />

disor<strong>de</strong>rs and suici<strong>de</strong> risk (p=0.28).<br />

Serum BDNF levels were significantly lower in subjects with three or more SLEs<br />

(90th percentile) (1.64 ± 1.43 ng/ml) compared to those with two or less SLEs (2.33 ± 1.30<br />

ng/ml, F= 5.64, p= 0.019) (Figure 1C).<br />

Table 2 shows Multivariate Analysis of data obtained from the Linear and Poisson<br />

regression analysis. Both the linear and Poisson regression analyses, adjusted for previous<br />

psychiatry treatment and SLEs, showed similar p-values.<br />

We performed a regression analysis to <strong>de</strong>termine which variables have the most<br />

impact on the BDNF level. After adjustment in Linear regression, for previous psychiatry
