Sabe-se que em 1600 foi cria<strong>da</strong> a freguesia <strong>de</strong> Pedro Miguel a qual<br />
se estendia entre a Praia do Almoxarife e os Cedros, incluindo por<br />
isso o que hoje é a freguesia <strong>da</strong> <strong>Ribeirinha</strong>, <strong>da</strong>do que o Salão era<br />
então um lugar pertencente aos Cedros.<br />
A freguesia <strong>da</strong> <strong>Ribeirinha</strong> foi cria<strong>da</strong> em 1666 e nessa <strong>da</strong>ta já<br />
<strong>de</strong>veria existir a igreja uma vez que então estas divisões <strong>de</strong><br />
autárquicas estavam intimamente liga<strong>da</strong>s à criação <strong>de</strong> paróquias.<br />
Assim, tudo indica que entre 1591 já <strong>de</strong>veria haver gente a viver<br />
nesta zona e que o lugar cresceu o suficiente para em 1666 ter uma<br />
igreja eleva<strong>da</strong> à categoria <strong>de</strong> Paróquia..<br />
