The book of Paraisópolis

Sorocaba Bakery. We love the small
markets and the drug stores, the candy
store, the pizzeria. There is everything.
We love that our grandmothers all live
close by and when they cook they make
the whole street smell great.
We wish it wasn’t so dirty and we wish
the motorcycles didn’t race down the
narrow streets. We can barely walk
when it rains. The streets always get
flooded, sewage overflows through
the manhole covers. The pavement
on our streets is not finished and
construction work needs to be done.
Cars block the sidewalks on our route
home from school. Sometimes people
argue, screaming and shouting, and
this bothers the whole neighbourhood.
There is so much movement. Sometimes
you can hear loud music. There are lots
of parties which is sometimes good
but sometimes bad. There are two
hairdressers right next to each other and
we think one of them could be replaced
for something different.
pitch. Instead of wasting food, we would
make it so people could use everything
to make a pie or donate their food to the
ones who need it. We would make the
streets flatter. We would remove the
gossips and smokers. We would fix the
electricity and the wiring and install
new garbage bins. If we unite, we can
buy some paint and paint some streets
to make them look more beautiful.
Remove cars from pedestrian crossings.
Fix the maaaany potholes. Encourage
people to work out, quit alcohol and
treat their addictions. Make some art.
Paint all the walls white and grey and
blue.
We would like to fix the sidewalks, the
squares and the asphalt. We would move
the trash our neighbours leave in the
middle of the street. We would make
the street wider and build a new soccer
