Traverso’s humble from its beginnings
In 1962, with full-time
jobs and small children at
home, John and George
Traverso purchased Ken
and Dick’s tavern in Roseland
on Chicago’s southeast
side.
The opening of that
restaurant, their first
full-service venture, in
1968 brought the addition
of “Mama T,” the
boy’s mother. Widowed in
1949 with four children,
Lena worked in various
area Roseland kitchens,
displaying the skills she
learned as a child in her
parents’ hotel in Cesuna,
Italy.
Following six years of
success in Mount Greenwood,
John and George
ventured west, opening
their first self-named restaurant,
Traverso’s, on
Harlem Avenue in Orland
Park. The new restaurant
was met with critical acclaim
and long lines, and
with Mama T running the
kitchen and 21-year-old
Paul Gabriel managing
the large staff, Traverso’s
flourished.
Within a year, the brothers
sold their other two
establishments to concentrate
their efforts in Orland
Park. In fact, by popular
demand, John and George
expanded the restaurant by
100 seats to 300 in 1975,
just one year after their
opening.
Still a strong presence
in Chicago’s south suburbs,
Traverso’s in Orland
Park celebrated 30
years in 2004. And despite
the passing of Mama T
in 1999 — at age 86 —
George, John and manager
Paul continue to oversee a
family tradition more than
40 years in the making.
Where they are today
Dine inside in Traverso’s
traditional Italian dining
room or bar during the
winter months and head
out back to the outdoor
patio and bar during the
warmer months.
Traverso’s patio is one
of the few places customers
are permitted to smoke.
They can have a cocktail
or two and partake in some
entertaining karaoke at 8
p.m. Wednesdays and 8:30
Tinley’s Pop’s Italian Beef & Sausage ready for the holidays
At Pop’s Italian Beef & Sausage
in Tinley Park, homemade
food at a great value is what is
on the menu this holiday season.
The Pop’s Italian Beef & Sausage
Tinley Park location has
been making the holidays special
with its delicious catering offerings
since 2009. Focusing on
high quality food with affordable
prices, Pop’s be a part of everyone’s
celebrations this season.
“Christmas Eve is our busiest
day of the year,” owner Burke
Matyas said. “People especially
love our beef and chicken for
their holiday gatherings.
“Every 15 minutes, we are
cooking 120 pieces of chicken,
so call early for a prime spot.
Some people who have made
our food a tradition are calling
a month in advance every year.”
Pop’s famous chicken is pressure-cooked
to make it more
moist and delicious, which is
why it is so popular among
customers. Also, all the beef is
cooked and sliced daily and has
been since the first Pop’s opened
its doors in Palos Heights in
1980.
Pop’s offers a variety of catering
packages which include
Italian beef, Italian sausage,
chicken, baked mostaccioli, and
sausage and meatball trays.
Delicious catering services
are not all Pop’s is known for.
Pop’s in Tinley Park also is part
of the hot lunch program for area
schools, and offers a fundraising
program that gives back 20 percent
of its profits that day to the
participating nonprofit group.
Pop’s daily specials and text
messaging promotions also
make Pop’s in Tinley Park a
popular lunch destination. At
9:30 a.m. every Monday, a text
message promotion is sent to
26,000 phone numbers of people
who opted into the program by
texting the word POPS (in all
capital letters) to 95577. The
specials are good for Monday
and Tuesday, and generally rotate
between the same popular
offerings. The menu items include;
cheeseburger ($2.25),
beef sandwich ($3.50), Italian
sausage sandwich ($2.99), gyros
sandwich ($3.50), breaded steak
sandwich ($2.99), and all-beef
hot dog ($2.25).
There are always two different
specials every day of the week.
Also, every order comes with
a brightly colored coupon for a
customer’s next visit.
For the most part, all Pop’s
stores offer the same menu, but
at Tinley Park people can also
order a homemade sloppy Joe,
or choose from two homemade
soups; cream of chicken with
rice, and vegetable beef barley.
They are very popular with
regulars and keep people coming
back again and again.
At Pop’s, customers are treated
as more than a just a customer;
they are treated as a friend.
“We have so many regulars
here, and I think it’s because we
give out great customer service,”
Matyas said. “We like to talk
Cervical disk replacement at Illinois Spine & Scoliosis
Center preserves range of motion, shortens recovery time
Whether it is moving boxes of
decorations or rearranging furniture
to accommodate guests, the
holidays can be a time of heavy
lifting. That means many will
be at risk of sustaining back and
neck injuries.
“The easiest way to cause an
injury is not keeping the core
muscles in shape,” said Dr. Kris
Siemionow, chief of spine surgery
and assistant professor of
orthopedics and neurosurgery at
the University of Illinois in Chicago.
“The most common cause
for a spinal injury is overuse.
Often, when you overexert yourself,
your muscles fatigue, which
left unrested, can lead to worse
injuries such as strains, pinched
nerves, or even breaks.”
One common ailment is a disk
herniation. This painful condition
is caused by problems with
the rubbery disks between the
individual vertebrae of the spine.
“A herniated disk is extremely
common,” said Dr. Anthony
Rinella, founder of the Illinois
Spine & Scoliosis Center. “It’s
often caused by repetitive motions
that involve looking up.
Disk herniations in the neck are a
common cause of pain radiating
toward the shoulder and down
the arm.”
Fortunately, there are treatment
options available. Patients
often are successfully treated
with conservative management
options, such as pain medication,
therapy and injections, but
a small percentage of people
with this condition will eventually
need surgery. Traditionally,
this procedure involved taking
out the problematic disk and fusing
the remaining disks together
with metal hardware.
While this fusion process provides
spinal stability, it also can
limit the patient’s range of motion.
A newer procedure, called
cervical disk replacement, has
solved this problem. Like the
standard cervical fusion, this surgery
involves removing the disk
to relieve pressure on the nerves.
But instead of a metal plate, surgeons
insert a flexible piece of
plastic.
“The biggest benefit is that this
maintains motion of the neck in
that area where normally a fusion
procedure would weld the
two bones together,” Siemionow
said. “The cervical disk replacement
basically functions similar
to a joint replacement that maintains
motion.”
While the procedure has been
around for some time, it is relatively
new in the United States.
“It took time for there to be
adequate research and for insurance
companies to support the
new technology,” Rinella said.
“Current studies suggest this is
a major step forward for cervical
spine surgery, perhaps the biggest
step in the past 30 years.”
Along with preserving range
of motion, there are other benefits
to the procedure. Cervical
disk replacements typically have
a shorter recovery time than a
fusion procedure. Patients often
go home the same day and are
completely healed in 4-6 weeks.
There are also fewer follow-up
appointments needed.
This recovery time is also
more comfortable for the patients,
because no immobilization
devices, such as neck collars,
are required. Compared to
metal, the plastic device used in
cervical disk replacement puts
less pressure on the disks above
and below it, which helps prevent
arthritis or degeneration.
Perhaps most importantly, the
procedure quickly improves the
patient’s quality of life by reducing
their symptoms.
“Patients usually see immediate
improvement in their radiating
pain symptoms. There’s a
very high rate of success compared
to other surgeries,” Rinella
said. “In patients that do need
surgery, we find that this new
technology is very promising.
And we are one of the few spine
surgeons using this advanced
technology.”
Circle Tractor celebrating
35 years in business
For 35 years, people from the southwest
suburbs have been coming to Circle
Tractor for the highest-quality tractors,
lawn equipment and attentive service.
That has been its hallmark. Circle Tractor
offers the widest selection of cuttingedge
products from the industry-leading
brands, such as John Deere, Toro, Honda
and the latest addition — Avant.
The dealership has grown from a small
specialty shop to one of the largest multiline
outdoor power equipment dealers in
the area.
At Circle Tractor, the company prides
itself on customer service and its ability
to meet each of its customer’s individual
needs. The company knows how
important equipment is to its customers
and understands they want someone
they trust to maintain it.
The parts department is staffed by experienced
professionals. They want to
make sure customers get the right parts
when they need them and at a fair price.
The store carries more than 10,000 original
equipment manufacturer parts in
stock, and if for any reason it is not carrying
the part someone needs, employees
will gladly have them shipped to the
store within just a couple of days.
Having trouble finding a part? Just
come in and talk to one of the store’s
parts employees, who will gladly help
locate the proper part needed for any machine.
The service department is staffed by
factory-trained and -certified professional
mechanics. It prides itself on thorough
inspections and proper diagnoses of machines
in a timely manner. The service
department will stand behind its work to
make sure equipment is working properly
for customers through the entire lawn
and garden season.
Celebrate the holidays with Side Street Tavern
Side Street is not just another
restaurant, nor just another sports
bar, but an entire dining and entertainment
emporium like none
other in the southwest suburbs.
Side Street incorporates a
pleasurable dining experience
with broad entertainment and an
inviting social atmosphere. Side
Street is large enough to seat 350
guests, has a large outdoor patio
that comfortably accommodates
50 people and multiple party
rooms.
Side Street offers delicious
food from a wide-ranging menu
served by professional, courteous
and friendly staff. Chef Victor
has created “updated versions of
American classics.” Side Street’s
signature dish is cola-braised
volcano pork shank, served with
Carolina mopping sauce, as well
as dishes that range from sirloin
steak and vegetables finished
with chimichurri sauce to North
Creek salmon prepared with
the customer’s choice of style –
Asian sesame or barbecue.
Comfort foods like turkey pot
pie and pot roast that jive with
the jolt of cold winter weather
brings also are being added to
the menu. For a palate pleasure,
diners must try the roasted red
potato and bacon salad, served
delicious and hot. Patrons commonly
remark on the Side Street
chips starter, piled with fresh
house-made chips, topped with
grated Parmesan and truffle aioli,
with a side of caramelized
onion dip. The taco lineup is another
popular category, ranging
from the tinga-filled with flavorful
shredded chicken, red onion,
cilantro and crema to the Baha,
made with battered mahi-mahi.
Flatbreads, fresh salads and
other handhelds round out the
casual offerings, as well as three
varieties of Weezees, a trademarked
sandwich staple. The
Side Street dining experience
would not be a decadent occasion
without dessert, and Side
Street does not disappoint in this
area. In addition to desserts that
can be shared or reveled solo, the
menu includes OMG It’s Gluten
Free brownie and Side Street’s
signature bread pudding that incorporates
sweet cognac butter.
It also features a list of dessert
libations from Irish coffee to the
silky sweet chocolate raspberry
kiss, crafted with chocolate and
raspberry liqueurs, mixed with
coffee and finished with a dollop
of whipped cream.
To complement the dinner,
Side Street offers a robust drink
list. Side Street features more
than 25 handpicked brews, some
rotating and seasonal, others
domestic and imported. The list
also includes handcrafted cocktails
and rosé, white and red
wines — any of which can make
a perfect pairing with the food
selections. Also, Side Street has
a long list of special drink offering
and libations.
Adding to the dining experience,
Side Street offers live
entertainment, DJ music, summertime
outdoor music festivals,
happy hour specials, pre-concert
parties with ticket giveaways,
post-concert parties with an occasional
entertainer from the
concert and for those who so
wish, video slot machines.
For the sports-minded, Side
Street has 25 large screen televisions
with a variety of sports
channels on at all times. For
those who want more active participation
there are other regular
events including bar bingo with
a progressive jackpot, and bean
bags including bags tournaments
both indoors and outdoors.
What is a time out without
some awesome music? Side
Street offers live music as diverse
as it is foot-tappingly
good, including everything from
Sinatra-style, swing, rock, classic
rock, country, folk, Irish, Motown
and more.
For special events, Side Street
offers catering and private special
event functions to accommodate
anniversary, birthday,
holiday, bridal and baby showers,
office parties in a very contemporaneous
setting. People
should not wait — book the office
or family and friends holiday
party now.
Side Street has a very simple
idea: If a customer is going out
to eat, they can incorporate some
fun as well.
Duet couple Phil &
Amy celebrate 25 years
Recording artists Phil & Amy are to be
featured entertainers at Christmas dine
and matinee performances scheduled for
Tuesday, Nov. 28, at White Fence Farm
and Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Starved Rock
Lodge.
Starved Rock Lodge also is to feature
its “Strolling Down Broadway” show
Aug. 6, 7 and 8, for those who were not
able to get reservations for their November
and December shows.
The popular husband-and-wife duo
have appeared throughout the Chicago
area over the years, and recently rereleased
their 25th anniversary edition
“Opening Night” Andrew Lloyd Webber
selection album via CDs, downloads and
streams. Looking back, the album’s success
was enhanced thanks to many appearances
with the Franz Benteler Royal
Strings Orchestra.
It is almost hard to believe Phil & Amy
just celebrated 25 years of marriage,
capped by an unexpected surprise party
feast at Drury Lane-Oakbrook, concocted
by their three children, family and friends.
This couple has been hosting travel
tours for almost 25 years as well — motorcoach
travel trips to destinations near
and far. With each trip, the “family” of
followers continues to grow.
Phil & Amy adopted the name of St.
Christopher Tours, invoking the blessing
of the patron saint of travelers.
Their motto is, “Like family, we visit
authentic America.” Instead of piling into
a family vehicle, customers board a deluxe
motorcoach for a one- or multi-day
excursion to a fabulous destination.
Phil & Amy trips are so well-planned
for comfort and enjoyment that it is like
being a child again, when mom and dad
took care of all the details carefree — just
went along for the fun.
Interesting parties can call now to inquire
about trips to Yellowstone in June
New Lenox-based
business works to make
clothes dryers safer
Most people know they
need to clean out their
dryer lint tray between
each cycle, but what lurks
behind the wall is just as
important for safety and
avoiding fire traps, as well
as fully efficient dryer performance.
Joe Enzenberger, owner
of Dryer Vent Wizard,
opened his New Lenoxbased
business in 2009.
Lint is the villain —
lint that has been allowed
to build up and linger too
long in the dryer exhaust
vent.
It is estimated by the
U.S. Consumer Product
Safety Commission and
the U.S. Fire Administration
that 15,500 fires associated
with clothes dryers
occur annually. These fires
account for an average of
20 deaths, 370 injuries and
more than $88 million in
property damage.
“Failure to clean the
dryer vent” was the leading
factor cited in U.S. Fire
Administration reports.
“It is something very
few people know about or
think about,” said Enzenberger,
whose company
specializes in dryer vent
cleaning, repair, alteration
and installation. “It is
the leading cause of dryer
fires.”
Lint accumulation also
can cause dryers to stop
working or to work inefficiently.
A dryer vent
clogged with lint can add
as much as $18 to $24 per
month to energy costs.
“Improper venting
causes problems, as well,”
Enzenberger said. “The
dryer exhaust duct and
connections should be
made of rigid metal or
semi-rigid metal and secured
with metal, heatresistant
tape, rather than
duct tape. I often find
plastic or foil accordiontype
material, which can
easily trap lint and is more
susceptible to kinks and
crushing.”
Warning signs include the
following.
• Clothes are taking more
than one cycle to dry,
especially jeans and
towels
• No lint visible on lint
screen
• Dryer repeatedly stops
during a cycle
• Clothes have moldy
smell after dry cycle
• Clothes are very hot after
a dry cycle
• The top of the dryer hot
to the touch while running
• There is excess lint left
on clothing
“This has been a consumer
education process,
but it’s hard to get the
word out,” Enzenberger
said . “Most don’t call
until they have a serious
problem with their dryer.”
He suggests people
treat clothes dryers as a
household item in need of
regular maintenance. Consumers
can protect dryer
performance and promote
safety by cleaning the lint
screen between each use,
ensuring the connection
between the dryer and
wall is made of compliant
material and remains
un-kinked, and having the
dryer exhaust duct cleaned
regularly. Dryer manufacturers
recommend inspection
and cleaning at least
annually.
Those who are taking
some time off for the holidays
find it is the perfect
time to have an inspection
and cleaning of clothes
dryers and dryer vent systems.
Another important tip:
Never let your clothes dryer
run when you are out of
the house or asleep.
Embers one of Lockport’s
bright spots after rising
from building’s ashes
Located in the heart of
Lockport, Embers Tap
House is one of the area’s
most popular spots.
Embers Tap House was
born in June 2015, with its
opening at the very start
of Canal Days. The Volz
Building sat empty for eight
years after a fire destroyed
the building, leaving a vacancy
in the revitalization
of downtown Lockport.
Through a collaborative effort
with the community,
Embers rose from the ashes
to become an anchor on
State Street.
Employing more than 75
people from the community,
designed and built from
all local contractors, with
materials sourced from
local businesses, Embers
is here for the community
and continues to give
back to the community.
The unique and historical
ambiance creates the perfect
backdrop for the next
formal event or the next
casual drink with friends.
For those looking for a
unique and versatile private
space to host the next
party, celebration, bash
or formal event, Embers
Banquet Center offers the
perfect solution. Embers’
naturally historic yet chic
room is unique, comfortable
and spacious enough
for many types of events.
Its expansive and exceptional
menu allows one to
supplement the celebration
with cuisine and service to
complement distinct tastes
and styles. In addition to its
popular to-go catering menu,
Embers’ banquet space can
accommodate anywhere
from 30 to 150 people. Its
experienced event coordinator,
Theresa Wolf, prides
herself in taking great care in
perfecting each of Embers’
events and looks forward to
working with new customers
soon.
The natural historical elements,
combined with the
contemporary and rustic
design, will have everyone
in awe. With a menu and
bar full of character and
delectable charm, as well
as friendly, comforting
service, Embers soon is to
become a favorite stop.
Village of Orland Park expands Holiday Festival
Outdoor Activities
Planned for Village
Center
The Village of Orland
Park’s annual tree lighting
ceremony and Holiday
Festival have been expanded
for 2017.
The event is to be held
Sunday, Nov. 26, at the Orland
Park Village Center,
14700 South Ravinia Ave.,
and will include a number
of outdoor elements,
featuring new lighted
sculptures throughout the
grounds to celebrate the
start of the holiday season.
“We have gathered as a
community to light the Village’s
tree for years, and
this year the recreation department
is expanding the
festival moving portions
of it outside to enhance
the winter wonderland at
the Village Center,” said
Trustee Pat Gira, chairwoman
of the Village’s
Parks & Recreation Committee.
Orland Park’s Holiday
Festival is to be held from
4:30-7:30 p.m., beginning
with the lighting of the Village’s
community tree and
holiday displays.
Area grade and high
school musical groups are
to perform from 5-7:30
p.m., with the Sandburg
High School Chamber
Choir strolling the grounds
and caroling in holiday
costumes.
New features are to include
live reindeer, children’s
train rides for $1
per ride, food, beverage
and holiday vendors, along
with free sleigh rides.
“Everyone is invited to
welcome the holiday season
to Orland Park,” Gira
said. “This is always a festive
event, and we’re excited
to expand it with the
many outdoor activities. It
is a great opportunity for
families to walk through
and experience the spectacular
holiday displays.”
Visits with Santa will be
available inside of the adjacent
Orland Park Civic
Center, along with makeand-take
crafts, face painting
and other entertainment.
Scout troops, churches,
athletic organizations,
youth groups and local
clubs are invited to adopt
community trees to decorate
on the Village green.
A limited number of trees
are available, and there is
no cost to participate.
Trees will be assigned
on a first come, first served
basis and are approximately
5 feet tall and will
include lights and a sign
with the organization’s
name.
Participating groups
must provide the decorations,
handmade or store
bought. Organizations are
asked to have their trees
decorated by Saturday,
Nov. 25, in time for the
holiday festival.
Village Pizza was established
in July 1977, and
it still resides at its original
location of 17260 Oak
Park Ave. in Tinley Park.
The business came to be
through Tony Martino’s
dream to open a small Italian
restaurant and truly
live the American dream.
He came to the United
States with very little, and
— through hard work and
the support of his family
and the community — he
made Village Pizza into
the successful business it
is today.
Choosing to open the
business in the lovely
Tinley Park was a nobrainer.
Martino first became
familiar with the
area through other family
members moving to the
area. It only took a few
visits to learn how beautiful
of a neighborhood and
welcoming of a community
Tinley Park was. So,
Martino decided to move
his family and start a business
in Tinley Park. They
do not regret that decision
to this day.
Village Pizza’s menu
features a variety of items
sure to please every member
of the family. The business
is best known for its
authentic, thin-crust pizza,
made with the freshest ingredients
and cooked in an
antique pizza oven. The
restaurant also features oven-baked
Italian beef sandwiches
and baked pastas.
Something that most
customers do not know
is that the entire process,
from ingredients to pizza,
has remained mostly unchanged
over the past 36
years. Probably the biggest
change was when
Village Pizza purchased
a dough mixer, so Mama
Carmela would no longer
have to knead the dough
by hand.
Village Pizza wishes the
community happy holidays.
Providence Catholic High School to hold
placement exam for incoming students
Providence Catholic
High School welcomes
all current eighth-grade
students to the Incoming
Freshman Placement
Exam on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Providence Catholic
High School is a college
prep school and challenges
every student academically.
Whether the student
is in Advanced Placement,
honors, college prep or
needs a little assistance
in the classroom, there is
a place for every student.
Providence Catholic ACT
scores are the best of any
school in Will County.
Providence Catholic
students go on to excel at
top tier colleges and universities.
Students receive
personalized college counseling
to make the right
choice. Graduates receive
more scholarship dollars
than any other high school
in the area. It is quite clear
that there is an advantage
to attending Providence
Catholic, often dubbed
The Providence Advantage.
“Our demanding coeducational,
college preparatory
curriculum is evidenced
by the success of
our most recent graduates
who earned scholarships
valued at nearly $40 million,”
President Fr. Richard
McGrath said. “We
offer inclusive service programs;
in fact, our recent
graduates performed in
excess of 25,000 hours of
community service during
their high school careers.”
Not only do the Celtics
experience excellence in
the classroom, but PCHS
students also succeed in
the athletic and extracurricular
arenas. The Celtics
are home to 30 state
championships, 67 state
trophies and hundreds of
regional titles, sectional titles
and conference championships.
The outcomes
of the graduates from the
Class of 2017 demonstrate
the elite and premier education
at Providence Catholic.
“Providing financial
assistance to Providence
Catholic families is a top
priority for the school,”
said Ed Barrett, director of
need-based aid. “Twentyfive
percent of our families
receive some type of financial
assistance.
“In fact, this year the
school has invested, and
$1.6 million was awarded
to our families in needbased
scholarships and
grants, work programs,
discounts, and subsidized
lunches.”
Providence Catholic invites
potential students to
continue the tradition and
become a part of excellence.
Pre-registration is
required for all incoming
freshmen. For information
Gym-Kinetics offers camps and clinics
The Gym-Kinetics gymnastic
school will be hosting many
different camps and clinics during
the Christmas holidays in its
newly expanded facility.
Gym-Kinetics is going through
a 7,000-square-foot expansion of
its existing 17,000-square-foot
gym. Owners Jim and Wendy
Fredrickson started the expansion
a couple of months ago to
give all of their students a more
comfortable experience. The
parking lot is completed, and
the gym space is to be ready
in a couple weeks. A three-day
gymnastic camp is scheduled
after Christmas for beginners to
advanced gymnasts from 10:30
a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dec. 27, 28 and
29.
Also offered will be Flip Flop
clinics at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on
Dec. 27 and 28, and the very
popular Ninja Zone mission for
girls and boys ages 4-9.
As Gym-Kinetics gets bigger,
its gymnasts are getting stronger.
Many of the top gymnasts in
the state train in Mokena, and
staff at the south side gym is excited
to test the new space with
many upgrades to its state-ofthe-art
facility.
Hundreds of state, regional
and national champions have
come out of Gym-Kinetics over
the years, as well as more than
30 full-ride college scholarships.
The business is hoping to see a
few more soon.
The owners said several college
coaches have been in the
gym the last few weeks, recruiting
Gym-Kinetics’ athletes.
They expect some offers to come
in soon.
Gym-Kinetics offers classes
for children just walking up
through high school age for both
girls and boys. The new addition
will have dedicated space for
the quickly growing Ninja Zone
program, along with reorganizing
the preschool space, and the
boys gymnastic area, which will
make all of the programs more
comfortable. Gym-Kinetics also
will be renting space to local
cheer teams.
Chesdan’s maintains status as crowd-pleaser
Historic pizzeria
tantalizes taste buds with
assortment of dishes
At Chesdan’s, the goal is to
be innovative in adding things
to the menu, but not to the point
that people feel uncomfortable
trying new dishes.
That is the mindset of Dan
Garr, who owns the pizzeria and
grille in Homer Glen with his
brother, Jim.
The dining establishment
was started in Brighton Park by
brothers Chester and Dan Sr.,
who combined their names in
1946, and the business quickly
became popular for its pizza and
other cuisine.
Garr and his brother took over
running the restaurant in 1975
and moved it out to Homer Glen
in 2002, when they got the first
liquor license in a village that
The Original King Special pizza — a thin crust
with cheese with sausage, mushroom, onion
and green pepper — is a longtime favorite at
Chesdan’s in Homer Glen. Photos by Thomas
Czaja/22nd Century Media
was incorporated just the year
before.
Though the brand has been a
success ever since, Garr does not
rest on his laurels.
“There are some core
things we always have here,”
Garr said, noting the pizzas with
fresh ingredients and many of the
pasta dishes. “But people’s tastes
have changed over the years in
what they are looking for.”
The chicken margarita sandwich is made with
a grilled, tender breast of chicken topped with
fresh bruschetta, romaine lettuce, Parmesan
cheese and mozzarella, all on French bread that is
toasted.
For those looking to stick with
tradition, getting a small, 10-
inch Original King Special pizza
— with thin crust and cheese
with sausage, mushroom, onion
and green pepper — is a viable
chesdan’s
From Page 23
sausage. It’s fresh, never frozen.
We grind our own cheese, and
I’m very particular about the
freshness of cheese.”
The owner points out there is
a delicate balance to be found in
the dairy.
“We get the cheese direct from
Wisconsin, and if it is too fresh
it is very dry, and if too old it is
very oily,” he said. “If it’s not
right, I reject the whole lot.”
Where the restaurant has
branched out in recent years is in
adding menu items such as new
pasta dishes and sandwiches, like
the chicken margarita sandwich
— a grilled chicken breast on a
French bread bun that is toasted
and served with mozzarella and
Parmesan cheeses. Menu items
like these make for a good lunch
or quick bite, according to the
owner.
If in the mood for the pasta,
the Arabiatta di Manzo — which
also comes in a meta (or halfportion)
— gives the palate plenty
of flavor with its tender beef,
red pepper flakes, garlic, red
onion, mushrooms, black olive
and fresh basil tossed over penne
noodles and finished with sliced
Parmesan cheese.
“I think people like the family-owned
solid restaurant that
has friendly service,” Garr said
in summing up the success the
business has achieved over the
decades.
Chesdan’s also attracts customers
by coming up with more
recent daily specials. Between
wine nights, summer entertainment
on the Chesdan’s patio
and other promotions, there is
plenty to experience with each
new visit to the restaurant. There
also are treats all ages can enjoy,
like a hand-scooped, made-withwhole-milk,
creamy Oreo milkshake
in a 22-ounce glass mug.
Altogether, Chesdan’s is proud
of its past while still working
hard and tweaking things here
and there for an even better future.
“It is quite fulfilling,” Garr said
of working at the restaurant with
many family members and providing
a combination of excellence
in ambiance and cuisine. “I
love it.”
Other dishes not to miss ...
• Buffalo shrimp 10-piece —
Owner Dan Garr’s favorite
Chesdan’s appetizer on which
to snack, this dish consists of
breaded and butterflied shrimp
that are peeled and de-veined
in-house, covered in a Cuervo
buffalo sauce.
• Cinnamon pillows — A dessert
the whole family can share,
these “pillows” are fried dough
covered in cinnamon sugar and
dipped in caramel and chocolate
sauces that are served on
the side.
Chesdan’s also caters holiday
parties.
The Legacy: Memory Support
The Legacy: Memory Support
at Evergreen Senior Living
is devoted to seniors living with
Alzheimer’s disease and other
forms of dementia. Caregivers
work with seniors to ensure they
maintain a healthy and mentally
stimulating life at the greatest
level of independence possible.
Families find comfort in the
team’s experience and ability to
make the transition as smooth
as possible for the entire family.
Helpful short-term options, such
as respite care, also are available.
The Legacy’s core philosophy
is “Life Unrehearsed.” With a focus
on personal interactions and
life skills, each day is allowed to
unfold uniquely for each senior
based upon their history, their
preferences and needs in the moment.
This daily journey offers
a gentle structure, a number of
programs to maintain a senior’s
abilities, encourages the use of
their skills, and creates a sense
of security and belonging. Opportunities
for success and joy
are abundant.
Celebrate joy this holiday season
Evergreen encourages all of
its seniors to celebrate the joy
in each and every day. And what
better time of year to celebrate
joy than during the upcoming
holiday season?
This year, Evergreen would
like the community celebrate
with it, so is opening its campus
to the public from 4-7 p.m.
tour.
People can see firsthand the
lovely community at Evergreen
Senior Living as its seniors welcome
them into their apartments
for the holiday season. People
can enjoy refreshments as they
tour the festive campus and meet
the wonderful members of the
community.
woes. Living is truly carefree
with no need for snow shovels
or ice scrapers, and no worries about
frozen pipes.
At Hanover Place, residents enjoy
a carefree, maintenance-free lifestyle
away from the hassles of home ownership
but with all the benefits of a
private residence in a choice of spacious
one- and two-bedroom options.
All floor plans feature full-size
kitchens, open living spaces and
full bathrooms. Even better, a maintenance
team is just a call away to
assist with projects large and small.
Four-legged friends feel at home,
too, because it is a pet-friendly community.
Hanover Place also represents a
value for retirees because the independent
living rental community
month-to-month rent with most
utilities included.
Residents enjoy many extra resort-style
services and amenities that
make life easier and more enjoyable
in this community. There is no
need to get in a car to go to a movie
theater, bistro, fitness center or hair
salon. All are just steps away at Hanover
Place, or transportation is provided.
Scheduled activities —from fitness
classes to games and crafts
— at the community make life fun.
Planned social events offer opportunities
to meet new friends. Should
residents have health care needs, an
on-site health clinic and in-home
health services also are available.
Life at Hanover Place, in a desirable,
convenient location, puts area
attractions just minutes away. Residents
live less than 3 miles from
the Metra station, farmer’s market,
Music in the Plaza and Benches on
the Avenue. As for dining and entertainment,
coffeehouses and bakeries,
fine dining and nightlife, sports bars
and lounges all are part of the neighborhood.
The community is conveniently
located near Interstate 80 and Interstate
57, offering easy travel to Chicago
and neighboring states. Metra’s
commuter rail service provides fast
daily service to Chicago and Joliet.
Chicago’s Midway International
Airport is roughly a half-hour drive
north, while O’Hare International
Airport is only 45 minutes away.
Pace Suburban Bus Service offers
When Just Shrimp opened its doors in late 2014, few
people in the Tinley Park area knew or ever had tried
“Our menu has expanded quite a bit since we first
Jack Gibbons Gardens all
about traditions, not trends
Jack Gibbons Gardens
does not follow trends.
Diners are not going
to witness Happy Hours
or Margarita Mondays at
Jack Gibbons.
That is because Jack
Gibbons focuses on what
really matters: great food
and even better company.
The restaurant reportedly
has customers who say
they have not been there
for 25-30 years but come
back and it is just the way
they remember it.
Jack Gibbons Gardens
— or Gibbons, as the
regulars call it — opened
in 1922 as a speakeasy.
Although times have
changed drastically since
then, the restaurant itself
has not. From the
red leather booths to the
wood-paneled walls, Jack
Gibbons is truly timeless.
In a time when chain
restaurants are on every
corner, Gibbons has become
even more special
and unique. From the second
a diner sits and is instantly
delivered delicious
warm bread, three-bean
salad and coleslaw — before
even a glance at the
menu — it is easy to know
one is about to have one of
the best meals of his or her
life. From surf and turf to
fried chicken, Gibbons has
something to satisfy any
craving.
Gibbons has been described
as a “generational
place” that sees everyone
from grandfathers and fathers
to their grandchildren
dine there.
A secret to that success
is that the restaurant’s staff
does not experience the
type of turnover seen in
some chain restaurants. Its
employees have worked
there for years, striving
for a “Cheers” vibe with
which the bartender knows
the customers, what they
are having and the friends
they bring with them.
David and Anne Jenkins bid
farewell to jewelry business
After 40 years in suburban Chicago, David
Jenkins and his wife, Anne, have announced
plans to retire and close the David
Anthony Jewelers stores in both Tinley Park
and New Lenox.
David opened the store at 17024 S. Oak
Park Avenue in Tinley Park in 1979, and
as the community grew they opened a second
location in 1996 at 1876 E. Lincoln
Highway in New Lenox. The stores have
always been best known for quality customer
service and custom work, especially
with fine-colored gems from around the
world and diamonds in various shapes. As
a horologist, David was able to take care of
watch and clock repairs for their customers,
as well as jewelry repair work.
The Jenkins actively have supported
the community and given time, talents
and funds to the local police, Lions Clubs,
American Legion and St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital, as well as sponsored
many of the local baseball teams.
Even though the business is still successful,
they feel it is time to retire and
move on. They do not have any specific
plans yet but primarily want to travel —
something they have not been able to do
with the demands of the stores.
“On behalf of the entire David Anthony
Jewelers staff, we extend our deepest thanks
for your business and continued support,”
they wrote in a farewell statement. “We are
so grateful that you have trusted us to provide
quality jewelry and gifts to create long
lasting memories of your engagements, anniversaries,
retirements and celebrations. It
has been an honor to be part of your important
moments for all these years, and we will
miss you greatly.”
Both stores will be open from 10 am..-6
p.m. Monday-Friday, and from 10 a.m.-5
p.m. Saturday, hosting a huge Going Out
Of Business Sale in which customers can
expect to save as much as 60 percent on
all fine jewelry and watches.
Dancing Marlin’s sharedplates
concept encourages
sampling, friendship
Eat, drink, share —
Dancing Marlin in Frankfort
is proud to be the first
South Suburban Chicago
restaurant to offer shared
plates featuring fine American
cuisine in an ultrahip
yet informal setting.
Conveniently located
minutes from Interstate 80,
Dancing Marlin offers a
seasonally evolving menu
that highlights innovative,
responsible and sustainable
fare with a purpose.
Diners can experience the
innovative, chef-driven
Dancing Marlin menu, on
which every item is made
in-house from scratch, using
high quality, fresh and
locally sourced ingredients.
In addition to great food,
Dancing Marlin’s sharing
concept provides a lively
and entertaining experience
perfect for dining
with friends and family.
What are the rules for
sharing?
There are no rules!
Guests begin by ordering
a few dishes to share.
Those still hungry can go
ahead and try a few more.
If someone at the table is
not the sharing type — and
there’s nothing wrong with
that — they may enjoy one
of the larger entrées.
People can start their
tasting adventures with
house-made sliders, tacos
or a flatbread, and then
enjoy a DM signature dish
such as “Gnudi”, “The Fig
and the Pig” or the locally
famous “NY Strip Steak”
— served Tuscan-style.
Diners should not forget
to taste the fresh seafood.
Dancing Marlin features
fresh fish sourced direct
from Hawaii, Japan, British
Columbia and other
acclaimed international
seafood locations. Patrons
also can try some of the
acclaimed DM favorites,
such as crab-stuffed peppers,
DM scallops, spicy
garlic shrimp and the daily
“fresh off the hook” specials.
An extensive list of
gluten-free items, as well
as vegetarian dishes, are
offered.
Dancing Marlin knows
when it comes to quality,
details matter. The DM
full service bar offers 18
carefully selected wines
served from a custom tap
system with perfect air and
temperature control for
every glass poured. Eight
handcrafted cocktails also
are offered on tap, many
of which are seasonally
inspired.
The DM staff has a passion
for food and drink,
and customers are encouraged
to ask for pairing
suggestions.
Dancing Marlin recognizes
that dining is as
much about the experience
as it is the cuisine, and the
atmosphere is as rousing
as the food. Interior design
elements are reclaimed
or repurposed, and serve
as a reflection of responsible
and sustainable values.
Diners also can have
a seat at the chef’s communal
table, also known
as “The Kitchen Table,”
where you can experience
an exclusive behind-thescenes
look at the high
energy DM open kitchen.
The atmosphere there
buzzes with excitement
and creates a festive sharing
environment for up to
16 people.
Dancing Marlin is the
perfect setting for private
dining and group events
ranging from cozy family
affairs for birthdays,
anniversaries or showers
to large corporate dinners
and client cocktail parties.
Customers can create custom
menus as unique as
the party being planned.
Dancing Marlin staffs
each private party with
dedicated servers to ensure
everyone has the best dining
experience.
The Original Pancake
House makes everyone
feel
15256S.
like
LaGrange Road,
family
Orland Park, 60462
(708) 349-0600
Holiday lights will soon
glow and twinkle. Bells
will jingle, while front
lawns and rooftops receive
a plush blanket of white
fluffy snow. Belly laughs
and joyful greetings will
be heard, as busy shoppers
travel the distance to find
those “perfect gifts” — all
with excited anticipation
of the holiday preparations
and family traditions.
Synonymous with the
authentic sentiments of
family traditions are the
customs that Lisa and
Steve Sczurek bestow
upon their breakfast restaurants
and employees,
not only during the holidays
but year-round. Being
proud third generation
owners of five Chicago
area Original Pancake
House franchises, they
work relentlessly to keep
“family” in their “familyowned
business.”
Lisa and Steve work
alongside everyone at the
restaurant. When not at
school, their older children
host and serve, working to
continue family traditions.
Encompassing the essence
of tradition, Lisa
and Steve know guests
enjoy seeing familiar
faces among the crew.
Therefore, they take pride
in their employment selection
and training. Every
employee undergoes
cutting-edge instruction
programs tailored to their
positions before they are
approved to work solo.
There also are banners
and table signs displayed,
honoring long-time, loyal
employees. This supports
the business where
it counts, promoting unmatched
loyalty all the
way around.
“I am very proud to have
numerous long-time employees
in each of our five
locations — many as long
as 25-35 years,” Lisa said.
Keeping true to the importance
of family meals,
The Original Pancake
House menu items are
made-to-order using the
freshest, most natural and
preservative-free ingredients
available, just like
grandma used to make.
The vast menu offers
something for everyone,
covering every imaginable
breakfast feast in a multitude
of ways.
One traditional preference
is the oven-baked,
homemade quiche, requiring
hand-sliced and mixed
ingredients, served in a
flaky crust beside fresh
fruit and seasoned hash
browned potatoes. Second
to none are the delectable
potato pancakes, which are
made from hand-peeled
Idaho potatoes, finely
minced on the premises
each morning, then grilled
to a crispy outside with a
warm and tender inside,
and served with the customer’s
choice of applesauce
or sour cream.
Another favorite is the
renowned apple pancake,
prepared with fresh sliced
Granny Smith apples,
smothered in a pure cinnamon
glaze. Not only is
this oven-baked treat a satisfying
meal built to share
but also Lisa has made it
a “must-have” at her own
family gatherings. Once it
is warmed in the oven, she
serves it with vanilla ice
cream as a mouthwatering
dessert. It is so popular,
in fact, that The Original
Pancake House gets multiple
phone orders for this
dish as a carryout item,
because other families are
adopting this homemade
guilty pleasure, as well.
So, as residents plan
family preparations, they
can volunteer to bring an
apple pancake for dessert
or treat loved ones to
breakfast at The Original
Pancake House, where everyone
is sure to feel like
family.
Santa Claus is coming to New Lenox
for Christmas in the Commons
Mayor Tim Baldermann and the
Village of New Lenox are excited
to announce the return of Christmas
in the Commons for the 2017 holiday
season.
The spectacular display of lights
highlighted by the largest illuminated
Santa Claus in the United States
will return to the New Lenox Village
Commons for its second year,
accompanied by a full calendar of
holiday activities.
The holiday light display is to
begin lighting up the Village Commons
Dec. 3, with dazzling drapes
of lights and life-sized displays that
will transform the Commons into
a winter wonderland. Santa Claus
is to stand nearly 40 feet tall, with
18,500 LED lights, and his special
mailbox to the North Pole will sit at
his feet. Visitors will have the opportunity
to mail letters to Santa,
and all letters mailed by Dec. 17
will receive a response from St.
Nick.
Also returning to the Commons
will be a synthetic ice skating rink,
presented in part by the New Lenox
Community Park District. Standard
skates can be used on the rink, and
guests are encouraged to bring their
own skates, though a limited supply
will be available to rent during select
hours.
New to Christmas in the Commons
this year is a holiday market,
taking place weekends from
Dec. 3 through Dec. 23. Guests
will find a new variety of vendors
each weekend, offering homemade
and artisanal wares for sale. People
can stop by to find unique gifts for
family and friends while supporting
small businesses in a beautiful holiday
atmosphere.
All the fun begins Dec. 3 with the
Christmas in the Commons Kickoff
Celebration from 2-6 p.m. in
the Village Commons. The kick-off
will include a visit from Santa and
Mrs. Claus, an appearance by Santa’s
reindeer, holiday performances
and more. The day will culminate
with the official throwing of the
switch to light up the Commons
with the holiday lights.
Additional details on Christmas
in the Commons can be found at
www.newlenox.net/events or by
calling the Village of New Lenox at
(815) 462-6400.
All events are free to attend, and
no admission ticket is required. The
Forest View Farms offers horseback riding for the holidays
For more than 50 years,
Forest View Farms has
welcomed horse-lovers of
all ages, whether they have
been riding all of their
lives or want to enjoy their
first rides.
Forest View Farms in
Tinley Park abuts the Cook
County Forest Preserves
— a beautiful piece of
land that begs to be seen.
The farms invite people
to enjoy time away from
life’s stresses and spend
time relaxing by meandering
through the beautiful
forest trails.
Riders are paired with
a horse at the rider’s skill
level, so new riders do not
feel overwhelmed while
sleigh rides, hayrides or
other horse-drawn vehicles
piloted by one of
the farms’ accomplished
workers.
Trail rides begin on the
Forest View Farms property
and take adjacent
trails through the Cook
County Forest Preserves.
Trail rides are offered
year-round, and offered
for both private, reserved
rides and walk-in customers.
Trail riders need to be
at least 9 years of age, with
a 250-pound weight limit.
Children younger than 9
who want to ride also can
enjoy pony rides, which
are offered year-round and
are great for smaller children.
Children learn to be
comfortable around horses
during their controlled
trail ride around the Forest
View Farms property. All
ponies are hand-led by a
parent or adult.
Forest View Farms offer
riding lessons for new and
advanced riders, young
and old. For those who
have always wanted to try
horseback riding, there
are classes for people of
all ages, from 3 years and
older. Toddlers can become
comfortable around
horses or ponies, and older
children can start learning
riding basics, with lessons
tailored to their ages and
levels of comfort.
For adults who have
never had the chance to
try horseback riding, Forest
Views Farms has both
group and private lessons,
so people can try it out
with their friends or on
their own. Forest View
Farms also offers driving
lessons.
Forest View Farms offers
everything one needs
for a successful, memorable
party. Parties can be
built to accommodate everything
from trail rides,
pony rentals, hayrides, ride
wagons, covered wagons,
carriages and stage coach
to petting farm animals.
Sheriff badges, hats and
bandannas are available
as party favors. The farms
have outdoor party pavilions
for their heated party
barn for fall, winter and
spring comfort.
And whether or not one
decides to have a party at
his or her location, or the
farms, Forest View can
supply everything needed,
including western decorations
and props for a great
party all guests will remember.
Forest View also does
parades, weddings, reunions,
convention events,
company picnics, cookouts,
special events and
parties for all occasions.
Forest View Farms invites
everyone to join for
a week of horsey fun at
the horse camp, which is
a great way to learn about
horses and other farm animals.
During the week at
camp, campers will learn
to brush, saddle and ride
horses. Campers also will
adopt one farm animal and
take care of it for the week.
Campers also will have
riding lessons and go on
trail rides daily.
The farm also has other
types of horse-related activities
throughout the
week.
Fall is upon us and hayride
season is here, while
winter is fast approaching.
And the coming of snow
brings sleigh rides.
Gift certificates are
available for any of the
above and make great
in March, April
There was a time when
the world was full of magic
and splendor, and all on
Earth existed in harmony
with Heaven. One could
see it in the arts, feel it in
the air, and hear it in the
beat of a drum.
This was a land of heroes
and sages, dragons
and phoenixes, emperors
and immortals. Known
today as China, this place
was once called “the Land
of the Divine.”
What if one could journey
back and visit this lost
paradise?
Shen Yun brings the
profound spirit of this
lost civilization to life on
stage with unrivaled artistic
mastery. Every dance
movement, every musical
note, makes this a stunning
Everyone is accepted at Stone Church
At Stone Church, they are all
about people. It is where something
real is going on. They are
all about people, because God
is all about people. One of the
ways we express love for Him is
through love for people and one
another.
Stone Church does that by
helping each person who comes
to grow in their relationships
with the Lord Jesus Christ.
It begins with a vision that can
be surmised in one word: Every
single person is accepted. Stone
Church is where heaven meets
earth.
Stone Church is so much more
than a service on the weekend.
It is about connecting with other
people, growing in faith and
building a strong foundation for
family. It is having a spiritual
family.
In a church family, it is easy to
just be a face in the crowd. Because
of that, Stone Church focuses
on small groups, or Stone Life
Groups. The church has group
leaders and members who are
waiting to get to know those who
attend.
Its mission is to help each person
at Stone be who God created
them to be: a believer in Jesus,
a family member, a follower and
builder of God’s kingdom.
We want every person to have
an opportunity to experience
what God has for them, whether
it is through serving or getting
plugged into one of the ministries.
Sunday Services are at 9 a.m.
and 11 a.m. Wednesday Family
Ministries take place at 7 p.m.
Examining the effects of
age-related hearing loss
South Suburban Hearing
Health Center specializes
in age-related hearing loss.
This is the loss of hearing
that gradually occurs
in most of us as we grow
older. It is one of the most
common conditions affecting
older and elderly adults.
Approximately 1-in-
3 people in the United
States between the ages
of 65 and 74 has hearing
loss, and nearly half of
those older than 75 have
difficulty hearing. Having
trouble hearing can make
it hard to understand and
follow a doctor’s advice;
respond to warnings; and
hear phones, doorbells and
smoke alarms. Hearing
loss also can make it hard
to enjoy talking with family
and friends, leading to
feelings of isolation.
Jonathan Wright, a specialist
at South Suburban
Hearing, said that agerelated
hearing loss most
often occurs in both ears,
affecting them equally. Because
the loss is gradual, if
people have age-related
hearing loss, they may not
realize that they lost some
of the ability to hear.
But research has linked
untreated hearing loss to
significant issues that affect
peoples’ lives in many
ways.
Dementia and hearing loss
Seniors with hearing
loss are significantly more
likely to develop dementia
over time than those who
retain their hearing.
• Mild hearing loss — 2
times more likely to develop
dementia
• Moderate hearing loss —
3 times more likely to
develop dementia
• Severe hearing loss — 5
times more likely to develop
dementia
Mental health and hearing
loss
Hearing loss results in
social isolation. Adults
with untreated hearing loss
tend to withdrawal from
engaging with family &
friends.
Adults 50 and older with
untreated hearing loss are
more likely report depression,
anxiety, anger and
frustration, emotional instability
and paranoia, and
are less likely to participate
in social activities than
those who wear hearing
aids.
Can one prevent agerelated
hearing loss?
At this time, scientists
do not know how to prevent
age-related hearing
loss. But people can
protect themselves from
noise-induced hearing loss
by protecting their ears
with ear plugs or ear muffs
from sounds that are too
loud and last too long.
How can people tell if they
have hearing problems?
People should ask themselves
the following questions.
If they answer “yes”
to three or more of these
questions, they could have
a hearing problem and may
need to have their hearing
checked.
• Do you sometimes feel
embarrassed when you
meet new people because
you struggle to
hear?
• Do you feel frustrated
when talking to members
of your family because
you have difficulty
hearing them?
• Do you have difficulty
hearing or understanding
co-workers, clients
or customers?
• Do you have trouble
hearing in the movies or
in the theater?
• Does a hearing problem
cause you to argue with
family members?
• Do you have trouble
hearing the TV or radio
at levels that are loud
enough for others?
and audiometric correlates.
What should people do if
they have trouble hearing?
Hearing problems can be
serious. The most important
thing people can do if
they think they have a hearing
problem is seek advice
from a health care provider.
If someone suspect they
or a loved one is experiencing
a hearing loss, they
should not hesitate to get a
hearing test.
Just Shrimp’s newest
menu items are the grilled
shrimp skewer and fresh
grilled salmon. Both items
are served with vegetables
and a baked potato, as opposed
to the traditional
sides of fries and coleslaw.
Just Shrimp’s menu includes
jumbo wild-caught
shrimp, different fish dinners
such as fish ’n’ chips,
lake perch, catfish and tilapia,
as well as a variety
of fish sandwiches and po’
boys. The are an array of
different side choices, as
well as their daily lobster
bisque soup.
It has been approximately
three years since Mihalos
convinced her family
to turn the once-named
Chicken Wild restaurant
into Just Shrimp.
“By experimenting a
little first, we added different
fried shrimp and
fish items to our previous
restaurant,” Mihalos said.
“Due to the high demand,
I was able to see that this
concept might just work,
since there is nothing like
us nearby. It was then, together
with my dad, that
we decided to switch the
whole concept to Just
Shrimp.”
Seeing as Mihalos is
a fourth generation restaurateur,
growing up
and around the restaurant
industry has helped her
greatly along the way.
Mihalos states, “Although
there are many
challenges I face being a
young, female restaurateur,
having my dad by my
side along the way does
help tremendously.”
In addition to their newly
grilled menu items, Just
Shrimp also is offering
a soft-shell crab po’ boy,
while still in season. This
seasonal item is loved by
customers, and is only offered
for a few weeks out
of the year. The po’ boy includes
fries and coleslaw,
hassle of having to get a new pair and
spend the uncomfortable time breaking
them in.
Ramon’s attention to detail means a
customer’s custom motorcycle bag will
be the finest a customer has ever owned
and will get them noticed on the road.
Seat coverings can be altered to fit the
individual, so no more struggling with
factory stock seats that can be uncomfortable
or even dangerous to ride on. Ramon
can add fringe to any leather motorcycle
accessories, including custom hand grip
fringe, floorboard fringe and bag fringe.
Heritage Softail bags can sag over time,
but Ramon can keep those bags looking
new with his custom-made leather
supports. If a customer has patches but
doesn’t trust themselves to apply them,
Ramon can apply them for the customer
to their cut, leather or denim jackets or
their bike’s bags.
Ramon has been working with leather
since his father started teaching him when
he was just 5 years old. Since then, Ramon
has been honing his craft, so there is
not any job too big or too small for him to
handle with the expertise and care needed
when making alterations or repairs to a
customer’s most prized possessions.
When customers work with Ramon,
they are going to come away with exactly
the work they want done at a fair and honest
price. This holiday season, residents
should come see why Ramon is the only
name a customer needs to know for all
their motorcycle leatherwork and shoe
repair needs.
