It’s not gone unnoticed the number of
people who, when taking their daily exercise,
are picking up litter as they go. Firstly, a
massive thank you to you from everyone in
the community for doing this. If you are
undertaking litter picking on a regular basis
(and as it is unlikely, we will be able to hold a
community litter pick anytime soon) if you
would like to borrow a “picker” and bin liner
holder please get in touch with the Parish
Clerk (details on page 2) and we can arrange
for you to have some equipment. Please also
remember to undertake this activity safely,
wear bright or light colours, make sure you
wear gloves and if you come across needles
or any drug paraphernalia please make a
note of where it is and
alert the Parish Clerk so
the relevant authorities
can be notified. Once
again, thanks for doing
this, wouldn’t it be nice
if we didn’t have too!

Berrington Parish Council usually meets at 7pm on the 1st Thursday of every month (except August and sometimes
December) at the Chapel Community Centre.
Until the Parish Council is able to meet in person, meetings will be held via the online platform Zoom. Details

A message from your Shropshire Councillor

SHROPSHIRE DRAFT LOCAL PLAN
The public consultation into the latest (and last) – pre-submission – version of
our Local Plan has been extended by three weeks and will now close at 5pm
on Friday 26 February 2021. The consultation which is available
at www.shropshire.gov.uk/get-involved began on 18 December and is
specifically asking for comments on the ‘soundness’ of the draft Plan.
The extension to the consultation has been agreed as a response to the
ongoing ‘lockdown’ restrictions which came into force on 4 January and limited access to Shropshire’s
libraries – where paper copies of the Plan had been made available to view. The council has therefore
agreed that – on request and where residents do not have access to the Internet – paper copies of the
Local Plan can be provided. To support this, it has also been agreed that the consultation will be extended
by three weeks.
The proposals for the parishes of Atcham and Berrington are exactly the same as were printed in the
August/September edition of the Village Pump and the Paris Councils’ websites also contains the details
and plans. There are NO allocated development sites within either parish. There is a development
boundary around Cross Houses and everything else outside this development boundary will remain (in
planning terms) Open Countryside. Shropshire Council Planners have suggested a maximum of nine
“windfall” properties which must be within the Development Boundary. An example of Windfall are the
two new properties by the roundabout opposite the shop.
VACCINE SCAM
Shropshire Council’s Public Health Team have asked that you be made aware of yet another COVID-19
scam email. People in the area have received a scam email offering them a dose of one of the new
vaccines. The scam email is entitled ‘This is a public health message from NHS’. This email claims that the
recipient has been selected for a coronavirus vaccination based upon their family genetics and medical
history. The emails contain a link that will take you to a website that asks for financial details to pay for
the vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine is available free of charge, and the NHS will only invite you for your
vaccination with a letter.

CHURCH SERVICES and NEWS from ST.EATA'S, ATCHAM
Following Government regulations St.Eata's is closed now
with no way of knowing when lockdown will end and
people can worship again.
Over the Christmas season the usual Services were held,
Carol Service, Eucharist on Christmas Eve and Christmas
morning. The Church was decorated with a tree, the crib
and greenery in keeping with the season. Michael, our
Organist played hymns, and a CD was used for carols.
It was decided to have a collection for the Food Bank for
Christmas. There was a massive response and grateful thanks to everyone who contributed. The
Food Bank distributed in total, 245 food parcels to people in need over the Christmas period.
When lockdown ends and services can go ahead again, information will appear on Notice Boards
around the village.
Sad news :- Catherine Ennis died on Christmas Eve at the Severn Hospice. She was married to
John Higham Q.C. they had a home in the Parish and were long- time members of our
congregation. Catherine was an International Organist and President of the Royal College of
Organists - a rare position for a woman in a man's world.
In alternate years, at Christmas time, she organised a Concert in our small village Church,
bringing with her from London, Ex Choral Scholars, BBC Singers, professionals - some world
famous
Catherine is survived by her husband John, her mother, brother, three daughters, three sons and
grandchildren. Her late father was Seamus Ennis an Irish Folk Music Historian.
Our deepest sympathy goes to all her family at this saddest of time
Rest eternal grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.

Free transport to help Shropshire residents get vaccinations
Shropshire residents who are without access to transport are now able to get FREE transport
to their COVID-19 vaccination appointments.
In order to get help, you must have had a letter inviting you for vaccination in Shropshire, and
you must be unable to get there any other way. Subject to availability, Shropshire Council will
be able to provide transport to help you get to your appointment and back.
All vehicles will have appropriate ventilation, with strict infection control measures in place to
ensure they are operated with the highest levels of public health safeguards.
Transport can be booked by calling the council’s COVID-19 Helpline on 0345 678 9028 (option
0) or via your local GP practice.
Plans are also in place to extend the transport offer to
cover Shropshire’s larger local vaccination centres in
Shrewsbury and Ludlow which are due to open in early
February. More details will be published on the Shropshire
Council website shortly when the opening dates have been
confirmed.

BE SEEN, BE SAFE
As we continue to exercise closer to home some of us
walk at night or early in the morning when the light isn’t
so good, especially when walking our dogs. Our rural
area does not have lots of streetlights so many of the
routes we walk are in darkness. There has been a few
people mention about the importance of making sure
you can be seen when walking, either by yourself or with
your dog. Make sure you can be seen and stay safe.
When heading out at dawn, dusk or night, it's important to
remember a few simple things that can help to keep both you and
your dog safe.
• Consider wearing high visibility clothing so
you can be easily seen by motorists.
• Carry a torch as it will help you to be seen.
• If there's no pavement, walk against the flow
of the traffic and keep your dog on the side
furthest from the road.
• A reflective collar and lead or a high visibility
coat/flashing collar will also increase your
dog's visibility in the dark.
• Take your mobile phone with you and let
someone know where you're headed.

giving us a donation of £311.75 following their
last “Fish & Chip Night” in the previous
Lockdown and Veronica and Richard Pryce who

Our intrepid Elves have now transformed into Easter Bunnies!
The Easter Bunnies are in the planning stage for an Easter Egg hunt around the village. It will be free
entry and there will be prizes to be won. Stephy Durkan, on behalf of the Eater Bunnies, will have
packs of Easter Egg cut outs for you to colour in and decorate either by yourself or with your family. All
they ask is that you place these decorated eggs in your window so they can be easily seen by The Egg
Hunters. These eggs need to be in position over the whole 2 weeks of the school holidays (2nd to 18th
April) so all families can join in when they want.
More information will be advertised on the Community Facebook Page and in the next edition of The
Pump.
At the moment they just need to know the houses that would like to participate so they can get a map
drawn up. If you/ your family would like to participate please get in touch with Stephy via the Community
Facebook Page or Messenger and let her know your house address and an Easter Egg Hunt Pack
will be popped through your letter box when we they get it all prepped in the next few weeks.
There will be prizes (1st, 2nd & 3rd) for the best decorated A4 sized eggs and prizes (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
for best window display.

From The Rectory,
Matthew is taking an extended sabbatical to recharge his batteries so
we are delighted that the Rev Alison Walker is writing for us.
Dear Friends,
We find ourselves again in another national lockdown, uncertain of
what the next few weeks and months entail. For the time being we’ve
decided to suspend Sunday worship in the Wenlock Team of Parishes as
we seek to keep one another safe, trusting that in time we can meet to
worship together again. For now we shall worship in our homes, never alone of course as Christ promises to
be present with us through the Holy Spirit that comforts and guides us in our daily life.
February also brings the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday falling on the 17 th . Lent is often a time of self
-discipline, to rediscover those spiritual disciplines we may have lost as we prepare to walk through the
events of our Lord’s passion; his crucifixion and raising from dead. Lent is also a hopeful time as our walk
towards the cross coincides with the days growing longer and the first signs of spring. We also have the hope
of the Covid-19 vaccines and that this will bring the easing of restrictions as people are vaccinated.
During Advent I shared in Church the poem on the next page written by Jan Richardson. I felt it was
appropriate to share it again as it encapsulates our waiting for the light to break through in our broken
world. It encourages us to search out the light that may come in ways we did not expect or foresee. I hope it
brings you hope in these challenging times as we wait for the blessed light that comes.

Although library buildings are closed, Shropshire Libraries are still running the popular Ready
Reads ‘click & collect’ service offering tailored book choices for you to read or listen to. There are
also a range of online resources and events available bringing libraries to your home at a time when
buildings are closed. Meet authors, join live Rhyme Time events and virtual story time sessions in
what are just some of the online events being offered by Shropshire Libraries to support you
through lockdown.
Through ‘Libraries at Home’ you can also entertain your children with fun activities, feed your
curiosity with the free online learning package include TED Talks, Ancestry and Shropshire Archives
or improve your digital skills and much more.
Shropshire Libraries also offers an extensive E-Library and with more titles being added regularly,
there is sure to be something to indulge your love of reading.

As museums across the county have closed their doors for lockdown, they remain very much open online bringing
collections and their stories alive in your home.
Mindful Museums
The museums team have produced a series of short videos offering you a mindful exploration of artworks and
objects held in the collection of Shropshire Museums. The videos are accompanied by a restful audio track by artist
& educator Lindsey Kennedy, which encourages you ‘to look, to breathe and to be curious’. You can listen to the

A belated Happy New Year to you all, although given the lockdown situation as I type this, I would forgive
you for perhaps not feeling this was the start to 2021 that we had hoped for. Things are certainly
difficult and challenging at best, and as a surgery we appreciate this and are here to help and support
in any way we can.
COVID19 Vaccinations
Our practice is one of a group of 9 medical practices working together to give COVID19 vaccinations
based at a central hub of Bridgnorth Medical Centre. At present we are vaccinating patients over 80
years of age, care home residents, care home staff and healthcare workers. Once these groups have
been vaccinated we will start to vaccinate the next group, which will be those over 75 years of age. We
are contacting patients directly to book these appointments and kindly ask that you DO NOT contact
us, as this takes our team away from clinical calls and from booking others. You may have also received
a letter from the NHS inviting you to book a vaccination in a central hub, our nearest being Birmingham.
You are not obliged to book a vaccination in one of these hubs and if you would rather have a local
appointment you do not need to take any further action or follow the link in the letter. If you would
prefer to book an appointment with the central hub then please use the contact details in the letter to
make this appointment. We are not able to make appointments directly in the large hub clinics for our
patients.
We appreciate that this is an anxious time and that many of you will be keen to have the vaccination as
soon as possible. We want you all to know, we are working incredibly hard to deliver as many vaccinations
as quickly and safely as we can. It is important to remember that once you have received your
vaccine you will still need to continue following government guidelines which at present are to only
leave the house for limited specific reasons, wear a face covering where appropriate, maintain physical
distancing and practicing frequent hand hygiene.
You may have questions regarding the COVID19 vaccination and it is important to ensure that you use
reputable sources of information. If you have access to the internet, please visit
www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19 for more information and guidance.
As a local GP and someone who genuinely cares, I’m reaching out to everyone reading this, to help us
to help you. We really need you to continue to wait for us to contact you for an appointment, follow the
government guidelines, and remember that we are still here to help.

Accessing GP Services
We are still providing general medical services to our patients as we always have but the way to
access these has changed a little:
On line Consultations - eConsult
eConsult is an online platform that enables patients to request medical advice from their GP by
simply undergoing an online consultation. During the online consultation patients may be
provided with advice for self-help or information on other services to receive the care that
aligns with their symptoms. If the GP feels that a patient needs a face-to-face appointment then
they will contact the patient within 48 hours and invite them in for an appointment. For many
medical queries the GP will contact the patient directly or instruct a member of the Practice
team to contact the patient with GP advice. We may respond to your e-consultation via
telephone, email or text message if you have given consent to receive text messages from the
Practice. In order to ensure we meet the increasing demand and needs of our patients whilst
ensuring our services are utilised appropriately, we encourage patients to utilise this service
and to find further information visit the practice website:
www.muchwenlockandcressagemp.co.uk.
If you are unable to utilise the eConsult method of contacting the surgery and wish to seek
advice from a GP you can book a telephone consultation with a doctor for a morning or
afternoon call back. The GP will discuss your issue with you and if necessary arrange an
appointment to see you face to face in the Practice. Please ensure you are available to receive
a call at any time during the 4 hour window as we cannot give you a definite call back time. If
you have an urgent on the day issue we are continuing to operate a duty doctor service and are
also providing home visits where necessary for housebound patients or patients who are too ill
to get to the Practice.
Nurse appointments and Health Care Assistant appointments
Appointments for essential treatments and tests are booked as previously by contacting the
Practice by phone to book in. Please note that there is a reduction in the number of available
appointments to allow for cleaning of areas in between appointments and to ensure social
distancing between patients coming in to and leaving the Practice.
Chronic disease reviews are continuing though some of these are taking place via the telephone
or video link rather than face to face. Patients are being invited for these appointments. Please
bear with us if your review is overdue as we are catching up from the first lockdown period
when all chronic disease reviews were suspended. If you are struggling to manage your chronic
disease then please let us know. Please note we are currently unable to offer online bookable
appointments.

Missed Rubbish or Recycling
Collections
If your recycling, rubbish or garden waste is not collected as expected you must report your
missed collection to Shropshire Council within two working days by calling 0345 678 9007.
Before you report a missed collection please wait until 5pm (because the collection crews
may still be out working). Also check:
• that your containers were out on the right day.
• that your containers were out by 7am
• that your containers were out in the correct place
• that your lid was closed and no extra waste was next to your
bin
• that the correct waste was in the containers
Shropshire Council will investigate the incident and if your
collection has genuinely been missed they will come back and
collect it within two working days.

News from Christ Church C.E. Primary School
Preparing, Sowing, Growing
Here We Go Again!
I am sure many of us thought “Here, we go again!” when news of the
latest national lockdown was announced. For us as a school, we had spent
the holidays and our first Monday getting ready for a new term with lots of
exciting things planned (Arthog Outreach trips up the Wrekin, walking in
Sheinton for birdwatching and a Virtual Reality headset day enabling a
class to go into space). Things changed very quickly with the
announcement of a prolonged period of school closure until at least
February half term. However, teachers are flexible and resilient and
instead of opening to a whole school, we quickly had 40% registered to
attend as children of key worker parents or vulnerable families and the
remaining 60% learning online.
Our online learning is a mixture of teachers recording videos and activities
which families access via Seesaw app and live teaching. All of KS2 have a
live lesson everyday using Zoom or Microsoft Teams and this enables
important contact with a teacher and their classmates. We have lent
devices to families that need them, to ensure that no one is left behind. We have learnt lessons from the last
lockdown and teachers have become more skilled in delivering lessons remotely – which is very different
from standing in front of a class. The silver lining is the skills children are developing, which will help them
through life – independence, and note taking spring to mind. The photo shows one of our Y3s, at home,
working on a science lesson on food chains, ably taking notes from the teacher speaking – a great skill to
have! We are also enjoying a whole series of lessons throughout the school on the Census (which was due to
take place in March 2021) and working with data that was collected in our local area in 2011.
Teaching assistants are still working with their small groups of children – but sometimes online instead and
our School Office are contacting families weekly to make sure that they have everything they need and are
okay. But we know this latest lockdown is hard – hard on children’s mental well-being and hard on parents
who are trying to juggle their own working lives and children learning at home. We can’t wait until we can
have school fully open to everyone again.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the Key Workers who are keeping things going and ensuring this
lockdown is as short as can be. To all of those who work for the NHS and social care (including many of our
parents) – we are in awe of your resilience as you look after us all again and we are so pleased to hear that
the vaccine programme is rolling out locally and will be our ‘escape route’ out. Thank you to our refuse
collectors and delivery drivers – without you, school could not function. Our final thank you to staff at
Childrensworld Cressage, our onsite nursery and wrap around care provider who are (at time of writing) fully
open enabling parents with small children to work and giving wrap around care to some of our key worker
children. It is a community effort at the moment!
