WELCOME 

Dear Patrons, 

Welcome to the Spring season 

programme at The SandPit Theatre, 

which promises to be an exciting season 

offering something for everyone with a 

great variety of shows and events. 

We have plenty of exciting shows for our 

Little Diggers. Renowned childrens 

companies such as Booster Cushion 

and Paddleboat Theatre Company will 

be bringing Peter Pan and also lots of 

imaginary friends onto the stage, so 

don’t miss out! 

Velocity returns in 2019 with another 

fantastic week of dance, with this year’s 

theme of festival! So get out your glitter, 

pack your bags and travel to Velocity 

Festival with us. 

We are currently fundraising for a large 

renovation project that we hope to 

complete from 2018 - 2021. If you would 

like to know more about this or would 

like to get involved please do get in 

touch with me.

THE LITTLE DIGGERS 

The ‘Little Diggers’ is the 

SandPit’s scheme for 

children, with theatre 

performances, workshops 

and film screenings aimed 

specifically for 3-8yr olds 

and their families. 

We aim to engage young people in the 

arts through affordable, exciting events 

they can enjoy, and often participate 

in. The scheme includes performances 

from a wide variety of styles - ranging 

from nationally renowned theatre 

companies to local intimate 

performances from Hertfordshire’s best 

theatre makers, well-known film 

releases to small arts and crafts 

workshops. Participation can vary 

from meeting the theatre characters 

for a photograph, to making their own 

puppets to take home after a puppetry 

performance, or getting stuck in with 

our themed crafts workshops! 

Little Digger shows are recognisable by 

the logo which is displayed on the 

posters, making it easy for parents to 

see which performances are suitable.

For £30 a year you can become a 

member of the Little Diggers receiving; 

- A membership card and welcome 

letter 

- Priority Booking, and access to 

early-bird discounts when applicable 

- No booking fee on all Little Diggers 

shows

Degas: A Passion for Perfection

EXHIBITION ON SCREEN journeys from the streets of 

Paris to the heart of a superb exhibition at the 

Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, whose extensive 

collection of Degas’ works is the most representative 

in Britain. With exclusive access to view rare and 

diverse works, this film tells a fascinating story of 

Degas’ pursuit for perfection through both 

experimentation with new techniques and lessons 

learnt from studying the past masters.

Shooting Stars Academy present FAME 

Junior, the pop culture phenomenon about 

the legendary New York High School of 

the Performing Arts lives forever. Fame JR. 

features a high energy, contemporary pop 

score (which includes the hit title song) and a 

touching coming-of-age story. 

Set during the last years of New York City’s 

celebrated High School for the 

Performing Arts in the early 1980s, Fame JR. 

is the bittersweet, but ultimately inspiring, 

story of a diverse group of students who 

commit to four years of gruelling artistic and 

academic work. With candor, humor and 

insight, the show explores the issues that 

confront many young people today. A 

heart-warming musical story about trust, 

team work, ambition and making your 

dreams come true.

Battle of the Bands 

Thursday 31st January 7:00pm

Enjoy an evening of student bands from rock to 

acoustic duos as they battle it out to win the title 

and be crowned the ultimate music band. 

JANUARY/ FEBRUARY 

Taking inspiration from the old rock legends, 

Led Zeppelin & Jimi Hendrix or modern day pop 

groups, bands of all types playing covers or 

original songs are invited to get involved. 

To get involved please see the Music Faculty at 

Sandringham School.

Senior Recital Evening Gym Display 2019

An evening showcasing solo and chamber 

music including both instrumental and vocal 

performances from Sandringham students in 

Years 10-13. 

This is an opportunity for friends and family to 

support and celebrate the hard work put in by 

our senior musicians throughout the year. 

The annual Gym Display showcases the 

choreography of some budding young 

gymnasts combined with some spectacular 

routines from the seniors. 

A family favourite enjoyable by all ages. 





PaddleBoat Theatre present a family theatrical adventure 

Margo & Mr. Whatsit 

Do you have an imaginary friend? A little piece of mischief only you can see? 

Sophia’s imaginary friend is called Mr. Whatsit. No matter where Sophia finds herself living, he’s 

always there with a new joke to tell and a new game to play. But when Sophia moves into her 

new foster home, Mr Whatsit finds himself unimagined! Now Sophia has a new imaginary friend 

– the glamourous, grown-up Margo. Can Mr. Whatsit’s childish playfulness keep him from being 

unimagined for good? And with her imaginary friends competing against each other, will Sophia 

manage to find her forever home? 

PaddleBoat Theatre Company present an interactive make-believe tale where the real and 

imaginary collide, and friends are never far away.

Our mysterious narrator tells us the tale of Peter Pan and his battle with his nemesis Captain 

Cook, known for his evil saucepans and dastardly cook-offs. Join him on his journey to 

Neverland, get more lost then you ever have before with the Lost Boys and maybe even help 

fight off some pirate baddies… 

Come with us as you fly into an imaginative and absurd Neverland, where anything can 

happen…if you believe, and can cook it, of course. 

This show is a comical, interactive theatre show for families to enjoy. A re-imagined story for 4-9 

year olds, featuring lots of participation and a Big Book! 

This performance is part of our Little Digger scheme.

Pablo Picasso is one of the greatest artists of 

all time - and right up until his death in 1973 

he was the most prolific of artists. Many films 

have dealt with these later years - the art, 

the affairs and the wide circle of friends. But 

where did this all begin? What made Picasso 

in the first place? Too long ignored, it is 

time to look at the early years of Picasso; the 

upbringing and the learning that led to his 

extraordinary achievements.

The much-anticipated sequel to the worldwide 

hit family film finds Paddington happily 

settled with the Brown family in Windsor 

Gardens, where he has become a popular 

member of the community, spreading joy and

it is bound to get you up out of your seat! 


Work Experience here at The SandPit Theatre 

Here at the SandPit Theatre we offer work experience to all young people looking for a weeks 

work placement in the arts. During the placement you will take part in multiple activities varying 

from training on equipment, operating lighting and sound, theatre maintenance and learning how 

the day to day operations of the theatre work. This opportunity is open to all students from Year 

10 through 13 and also includes students studying at college due to the nature of the work.

West Herts Music Theatre are proud to bring Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to the 

SandPit Theatre. Joseph celebrated its 50th birthday in 2018 and was one of the early collaborations 

between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. 

Retelling the Biblical story of Joseph and the coat of many colours, 

this magical musical, the UK’s longest running, is full of 

unforgettable songs including Those Canaan Days, Any Dream Will Do 

and Close Every Door To Me.

West Herts Music Theatre is a musical theatre group for 

8-19 year olds intrested in singing, dancing and acting.

This year sees new works by Anthony Missen (Company 

Chameleon), Didy Veldman, Jose Agudo as well as a 

re-staging of Liz Aggiss’ History Repeating… created for 

mapdance. The mixed repertory offers dance, theatre, 

intricate lyrical choreography, fast-paced athleticism and 

wry humour. With appeal to both seasoned dance viewers 

and audiences new to dance, it is of particular relevance to 

dance students at GCSE, BTEC and A-level.

GETTING HERE AND PARKING 

Location: The SandPit Theatre is 

situated in the grounds of 

Sandringham School, approximately a 

1.5 mile walk from St.Albans City train 

station and the town centre where there 

are several bus routes. 

Parking: The school car park is 

available and free, but does get very 

busy. There are 2 main car parks, the 

first entered by the main gate, the second 

entered by the top gate (marked 

deliveries) and an overflow car park to 

the rear of the theatre. If the car park 

is full, the majority of the surrounding 

residential roads are all free parking. 

ACCESSIBILITY 

We aim to offer our disabled 

customers the same experiences as all 

other people. 

There are 2 permanent wheelchair 

positions in the auditorium. Customers 

can also buy a companion’s seat at the 

same rate. 

For non-allocated performances, if you 

have a disability that requires specific 

seats, please do contact us. For 

allocated performances we reserve the 

front two rows for those with access 

needs and a companion. 

Assistance dogs are welcome.

cancelled or sold out where we 

offer a buy back system. Tickets can 

be exchanged at our discretion to an 

alternative performance of the same 

production, subject to availability. A fee 

will apply for this service. 

Babes in Arms: The SandPit 

Theatre encourages access for all. An 

infant aged below 2 years, will need 

to be accomodated on the parent or 

carer’s lap as no seat will be allocated. 

There will be no charge for this. 

Children over the age of 2 should have 

a paid concession ticket or full price 

where no concessionary rate is offered.
