to promise fun, variety and great Bible teaching. We offer 

holidays that are specifically designed and very much 

enjoyed by all ages. We love our location and we love our

I 

came to Capernwray before I was born, with my 

mother who is fondly known as ‘Mrs T’. I grew 

up to see the change in a place and a change in 

people and have been privileged to be director 

here for the last 32 years. 

Built by a respected gentry family and established as 

their home in the 19th century, Capernwray Hall was 

auctioned in 1946 into the hands of my parents - 

a couple who had the sole desire of seeing young 

people come to know the God who created them 

through experiencing the risen life of the Lord Jesus 

Christ. It became God’s place! That purpose has not 

changed, for the torch lit then through Major Ian and 

Mrs Joan Thomas has been carried around the globe. 

A group of 30 German young people who came 

to Capernwray in 1948, sponsored by the British 

government, was the spark that led to Torchbearers 

International, for they returned home to the Continent 

sharing the light of Christ. Jesus stepped out of the 

pages of the Scripture, became personal to so many 

from Britain and Europe and soon the hunger for 

such biblical teaching led to the global network of 

Capernwray Bible Schools. 

Without doubt the Lord is in this place. So your visit 

in 2014 will be filled with fun and smiling faces, with 

fellowship and you will see great places. It will be a 

holiday with a difference. Enjoy the facilities while 

you discover that Christ who still steps out of God’s 

Word will be our focus. He will teach you, challenge 

you and promise to be what you need and the 

enabler for what you should be.

her family until 2001 when she moved to 

Canada as her husband, Charles, became 

senior pastor of The Peoples Church 

in Toronto. Along with a Bible teaching 

ministry, she has a particular passion for the 

voiceless and marginalised. Hilary’s theme 

for the weekend will be “Come to Me...” 

Matthew11:28. When Jesus offered this 

personal invitation, he was not looking for 

a one time decision but opening up a lifelong

CONNECT at Capernwray is a great break for

This twelve day break at another Capernwray 

Torchbearer centre called Rio Vida (the River of Life) 

offers the chance to relax on quiet sandy beaches 

and swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea. As well as 

the encouraging and practical Bible teaching there 

will be ample time to jump on the train, explore the 

coastline and wander the local markets and cafes. 

Excursions are also arranged, the highlight being a 

visit to a spa and restaurant. Many ladies return and

Jim Graham has been pastoring for over 50 years! Originally from Scotland, 

Jim has been associated with Gold Hill Baptist Church, Buckinghamshire 

since 1968. He now lives with the title of Pastor Emeritus of Gold Hill Baptist 

Churches. 

He was the President of British Youth for Christ during the 1990’s as well as 

being a regular Bible teacher at our Bible School here at Capernwray Hall, 

Keswick Conventions, Spring Harvest and other national and international 

conferences. Jim is often in South Korea and other Asian countries. 

At Capernwray we know that Jim’s wisdom, gleaned though his study of 

Scriptures and through the experiences of many years in ministry, make his 

Bible teaching alive, his points wise, and his conclusions practical. 

The Greatest Need of the Church Today – Making Disciples 

“Jesus did not call us to build His Church (that is His responsibility!) but 

He did call us to make disciples. We don’t have a missional or a leadership 

problem in the Western Church – we have a discipleship problem. When 

you know how to disciple people properly you always get mission and 

you will always produce leaders. We have often made converts without 

making disciples fully trained and equipped in all that Jesus taught and 

demonstrated. Let’s take time to look at Discipleship together!”

our guest speaker. He’s coming to ask a 

great question: Who Am I? What defines 

us? Our faith, family, job, achievements? 

We will study what it means to love our lives 

as sons of the living God. 

Peter and his wife, Win, have 3 children and 

9 grandchildren. For more than 40 years, 

Peter has been involved with Operation 

Mobilisation and for the last 10 years of 

his time, as the International Director. He 

is now the International Director Emeritus. 

OM works in 112 countries with more than 

6000 missionaries. 

Involved with the Keswick Convention for 

many years and for 9 years as Chairman 

he loves Bible teaching and spends a 

significant amount of his time doing 

this both in the UK and in many parts of 

the world. In his spare time he is an avid 

reader, loves sport and loves to work out in 

running, cycling and using the gym.

Celebrating New Year at Capernwray is a lot 

of winter fun! We provide some beautiful walks, 

some roaring fires and some fine food to savour. 

Whether you are an early morning walk kind of 

person or more of an afternoon in the sauna type

with a friendly bunch of like minded people. Each 

morning and evening bring great Bible teaching 

that you will find to be relevant and practical from 

the Principal of Capernwray Bible School (Rob) and 

the Deputy Principal (Ian). They want you to enjoy 

strengthening your relationship with Christ as you

A radical approach for getting the most out of life! 

(reading time approx. 1 minute 30 seconds) 

Some scenes you never forget. This was 

way back in the 80’s and my friend was 

excitedly unpacking his first computer. As 

I recall, it came in three large cardboard 

boxes and, eventually, he figured out 

how the screen, adaptors, keyboard and mouse 

linked to the beige central 

processor. This was long before 

the arrival of full colour, HD, 

Dolby 5:2 set ups, and so, as he 

gazed expectantly at the green 

writing on a black background, 

he looked like the captain of a 

submarine trying to make sense 

of the sonic bleeps on a radar 

screen. 

I think it took all of five minutes 

for him to lose patience with 

the whole set up. I stepped back, visualising 

screen, keyboard, mouse and CPU becoming 

airborne any second as he slung them through 

the nearest window. It was around that time that 

we saw two huge books encased in cellophane; 

this was in the days when instruction manuals 

were not downloadable PDF documents, but

actual books! Although challenging reading, they 

rescued the computer from an early grave and 

my friend from a nervous breakdown. 

I wonder how many of us have actually read 

and understood the Maker’s Manual, not for a 

computer but for our lives? We 

are often so busy or so tired 

or so discouraged that we just 

don’t get round to reading the 

Good Book. At Bible school, 

you can invest 2 or 6 or 9 

months as you give God space 

to help you figure out you. More 

importantly, you can allow Him 

to refocus your view of Jesus 

and rekindle your passion for 

His call on your life. So many 

of our students say that their 

time at Capernwray Bible School was the single 

best thing they ever did. If you are not sure that

General Information 

We will provide a hand and bath towel for each 

person during your holiday. 

All bedding is provided. 

All bedrooms have their own sinks, with showers 

and toilets close to each bedroom. 

Laundry facilities are available with coin operated 

washing machines and tumble driers as well as 

irons. (Non-biological washing powder only.) 

All meals are included in your holiday, usually 

from the evening meal on your arrival day to 

breakfast on your departure day. Packed lunches 

are available during your stay, upon request. Our 

coffeeshop ‘the Beehive’ is available for you to 

buy snacks and drinks between meals. 

Group Information 

We will generally only correspond with 

group leaders - those who book holidays 

on behalf of others. This is an attempt to 

avoid miscommunication. Group leaders are 

responsible for collecting payment from group 

members and forwarding that payment on to 

Capernwray Holidays before the required due 

date. See our website or contact us for more 

information. A group booking form can be 

downloaded from our website. Contact us to 

discuss group rates. 

Parents’ Information 

If you are considering sending under 18 year 

olds and have any questions please contact us 

before booking. Once you have sent your child’s 

booking form and deposit we will send you a 

Parental Consent form, or you can download 

one from our website and send it with your 

booking. We require that this is completed and 

returned to us at least two weeks before the 

beginning of the holiday. This allows us to fully 

prepare for your child’s arrival, based upon their 

particular needs. 

In summer Family Weeks we provide evening 

“Baby Listening” for children under 7 years 

old during the evening meeting. Either staff will 

monitor corridors or we will give you a baby 

monitor depending on the location of your 

bedroom.

requesting a standard room in the Courtyard

download one from our website and send it 

with your booking. 

2 | Include details of all members’ names, 

addresses, date of birth and any special 

needs they may have. (For example medically 

approved dietary or disabled access 

accommodation requirements). 

3 | Decide if you would like to take out our 

cancellation insurance and tick the relevant 

boxes. 

Capernwray offers cancellation cover for the 

benefit of our guests, which costs £1 per 

person per night. This is to prevent you having 

to pay more than the non-refundable deposit 

in the event that you have to cancel (not curtail) 

your booking, due to circumstances beyond 

your control. Guests who wish to opt out of 

this highly recommended cover should be 

aware of the penalties in the event of having 

to cancel a booking as outlined in our terms 

and conditions.

£30 per person per week, or £15 per person 

per weekend. 

(please note that a small number of these 

rooms are on the ground floor and are 

designed and prioritised for guests with 

disabilities, including adapted doors and 

space for wheelchair users, with specially 

designed showers and bathroom suites.)

Please take time to read our terms and conditions carefully, they are 

the basis of the contract between yourself and Capernwray Holidays. 

Terms & 

A contract will exist between Capernwray Holidays and yourself when we receive your booking 

form and deposit. In return you will receive from us a booking confirmation slip and receipt for 

the payment received. If you think anything is incorrect and needs our attention, please contact 

us immediately. 

1 | The prices in the brochure are for full board, standard accommodation. The price stated is the 

price per person per holiday and is correct at the time of going to press. We reserve the right to 

amend the fees if necessary. All payments must be in Pounds Sterling. 

2 | If you request a small room (2/3 bedded rooms) or an en-suite room (2/3 bedded rooms) you will 

be charged a supplement of £10/£15 per person per weekend, or £15/£30 per person per week. 

We only have a limited amount of small rooms and availability of these cannot be guaranteed. 

3 | A non-refundable deposit of £25 per person per holiday plus optional cancellation cover of £1 

per person, per night (if required) should be paid when making a booking. You will be deemed 

to have declined this cancellation cover if you do not include the payment with your deposit on 

your booking form. 

4 | The amount paid (deposit and cancellation cover) will be given in the ‘confirmation of booking’ 

letter. The outstanding balance is due six weeks before the start of your holiday. If you choose 

to pay the balance by credit card, there will be an additional charge of 2% to cover bank fees. 

5 | If you are booking a holiday less than six weeks before the holiday start date, the full cost is 

payable at time of booking. 

6 | A cancellation of a booking is only acceptable if received in writing. In the event of a cancellation, 

the deposit and cancellation cover is forfeited, and if the cancellation is made 28 days or less 

before the start of the holiday, the following charges will apply: 

between 28 and 14 days prior to arrival, 50% of the total holiday cost is forfeited; 

between 14 and 7 days prior to arrival, 75% of the total holiday cost is forfeited; 

less than 7 days prior to arrival, 100% of the total holiday cost is forfeited. 

If you have paid for cancellation cover and the reason for cancelling is beyond your control, only 

the deposit and cancellation cover premium will be forfeited.

Conditions 

7 | If you prefer not to accept our cancellation cover we recommend you safeguard your possible 

loss of part or all of your holiday cost by taking out cancellation and or travel insurance. There is 

a suitable policy arranged through Christian Camping International (UK) which can be found at 

www.freetime-travel-insurance.com 

8 | Personal property is your responsibility at all times. A safe is available at reception for travel 

documents, money and other smaller items. Capernwray Hall is insured for public liability. 

9 | Travel Visas. It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa to allow you to join us, 

prior to arrival in the UK. 

10 | Data Protection. Personal information given on booking forms and other sources is used for 

Capernwray/Torchbearers International purposes only and is not passed on or sold to third 

parties. During your holiday photographs and videos may be taken for use in our promotional 

material. If you do not wish to appear in such presentations please inform us in writing, before 

your arrival. Please contact us if you would like your details to be removed from our records. 

11 | We can cater for vegetarians and will try to cater for medically essential diets whenever possible, 

if we are given details in advance of your visit. 

12 | Car parking is entirely at the owner’s risk. 

13 | Guests are requested not to arrive earlier than 4.00pm at the beginning of their stay, and to 

vacate their bedroom no later than 10.00am on the day of departure, except for Men’s Weekend 

and our (short) Ladies’ Weekend when guests should leave after lunch on Sunday. 

14 | We regret we cannot allow any pets. 

15 | Some optional activities and trips that may be offered during Holidays carry additional charges. 

Bookings and payment will be arranged during your stay. 

16 | We do not allow alcohol or drugs on site at Capernwray Hall and ask our guests to respect our 

wishes in this matter. In addition, we ask that guests in our care who are under 18 years of age 

do not bring, obtain or consume alcohol or drugs on or off site during their stay.
