The Effects of Seedling Density and Fertilizing on Morphological
Characteristics of Crimean Juniper (Juniperus Excelsa Bieb.) Seedlings.

In this study, the effects of seedling densities and different fertilizing treatments on
morphological characteristics of Crimean Juniper (Juniperus excelsa Bieb.) were
investigated. In order to realize this, four seedling densities (150, 250 and 350)
including control (600) seedlings per square meter and tree fertilizer doses (0 g N, 10
g N and 20 g N per square meter) were applied. In this connection, the effects of
combination of these treatments on the morphological characteristics such as
seedling height, root collar diameter, fresh and oven dry weight of stem and root, the
number of subterminal shoots and subterminal root, the longest subterminal root,
stem/root oven dry weight rate were studied.
The data related to the experiments were evaluated by using SPSS packet
programme. The results showed that seedling densities have been affecting the root
collar diameter more than seedling height while the fertilizer doses have been
affecting the height of seedlings. As a result, it could be advised that under the
ecological conditions of Eğirdir Forest Nursery, seedlings with good quality could be
provided by using 250-350 seedling density and applying 10 g N per square meter in
July.
