It is said that the only organ that
does not renew itself is the eyes.
What is the reason for this?
Yes, other than the surface
protective layers, none of the
functional structures renew
themselves. Eyes are formed in
the womb as a direct extension
of the brain when the brain forms
two small horns in the front. When
the human body is being formed
in the womb various shapes are
created and in a sense the fabrics
of each tissue or organ emerge.
One of these fabrics is the one
we call Neuroectoderm and the
eyes acquire their basic functional
structures from this fabric. The
feature of this fabric is that it is the
first and last source and cannot be
renewed.
Do you have other studies going
on right now concerning eye
disorders?
I have many patents in the field of
ophthalmology:
I have a total of seven international
patents including the two new
applications I have made. Each of
the seven patents covers separate
applications in the US, European
Union, China and India.
My Patents: An eye imaging
system and many special surgical
instruments that I have developed
to be used in eye operations.
You talked about spreading the
information in the international
field. How do we do this?
By publishing them in accessible
scientific journals that are scanned
in scientific publication indexes. Is
it easy to have articles published
in these scientific journals? If you
will excuse the expression, it is
harder than making a camel jump
over a ditch. If you wonder “why is
it so difficult?” I can tell you there
are many reasons. Actually if we go
way back what is behind this is that
Eastern Civilization has lost science
to Western Civilization. Since the
language of science, which was first
Latin, is now English, it has become
more difficult for information to be
spread into the international arena
and for scientific contributions to be
produced from Eastern Civilization.
No matter what anyone says there
is some prejudice towards the
Middle Eastern Geography in the
West. Some could claim “But there
are such and such reasons for this
prejudice! Did you know?” and they
would be right to a certain extent.
What qualities do you think a
scientist should have?
A scientist should have no
prejudices and dogmas. They
should never forget that everything
they have been taught could
actually be wrong. They should be
able to be objective. They should be
able to say the King’s right to the
King and Caesar’s right to Caesar.
They must know how to evaluate
work that is placed on their desk
only as scientific work in the context
of scientific scales.
Some scientists start acting like
the Creator as the produce things.
What do you think about this?
I would like to answer this question
with the following example:
In Turkey a master craftsman
working at a Mercedes service
center eventually gets so confident
after a time that they start saying
‘’actually it should have been done
like this” etc. They forget they are
a repairman there. Those among
us sometimes forget that they are
repairing the Creator’s products
and start thinking they have turned
into engineers.
We should not forget that what
the mind is not enough for is
destroyed by the mind. The mind
and reasoning is based on what
is known; a mind that is based on
knowns may not be enough for the
unknowns.
Do you think that the achievements
in the world of medicine are
paid enough attention in the
international field?
Sometimes you will see very
inconsistent publications in some
of the most reputable scientific
journals. But the same journal
will reject another article that is
loaded with scientific data and
proof because it has come from
this country or that center. To
summarize, in order for scientific
works, especially from this part
of the world, to be published
in internationally reputable
scientific journals, they must
have undeniable, non-negligible
data. This is why “international
scientific achievement” is especially
important in this geography.
Actually in essence science is
science, there should be nothing
national or international about it.
But when you attempt to shout
out “international scientific
achievement” in the other reality
I talked about, this holds a whole
different hidden complex and this is
really tragic.
What kinds of differences do
you observe when you compare
achievements abroad to those in
our country?
Many of us have seen different
centers abroad. In fact there are
so many that even in the centers
that we make a big deal about have
lower quality work and operations
being done which we regard as
mediocre.
