Ciao Italy!
Every April we go to Italy for two important reasons. We observe
the future trends of fabrics and curtains at Proposte. The major
brands of these two categories display their latest works at Villa
Erba in Cernobbio near Como. For some years, Proposte coincides
with iSaloni, the Salone del Mobile Milano where we can
observe what is the new role of the Salone.
Proposte will show all the bests of European supply and trends
in Villa Erba and many additional Turkish manufacturers’ best
products at International Observatory, a part of Proposte held in
nearby Sheraton Lake Como hotel.
How and where to start redesigning its evolution? The Milan trade
fair Salone del Mobile, the international point of reference for the
furnishing and design sector, has reclaimed its traditional spot in
the calendar, boasting a totally new format and multidisciplinary
cultural content for Euroluce, and a decision to plan the 2023
edition on one single level at the fairgrounds, thus acting as a
shockwave and paving the way for the new design of the trade
fair event.
Coyuchi is the first home brand
to achieve full circularity
C
Coyuchi, the leader in sustainable home
textiles since 1991, announced that it is the
first brand in the home industry to achieve
full circularity through the development of
its Full Circle Recycled Cotton Blanket &
Throw, a product crafted from 52% of its own recycled
Coyuchi cotton and 48% organically grown material.
Production on the blanket, which Coyuchi announced had
begun in April, has been completed and is available now
to order.
While no single industry roadmap to circularity exists, the
brand determined the pathway to a closed loop that best
fit Coyuchi’s unique needs would be to recollect its own
products from customers and produce something new
from them. For Coyuchi, innovation in textiles has always
meant being responsible for every single thing it puts out
into the world, and it is proud to provide the industry with
the first prototype for how this can be achieved.
“Coyuchi is proud to blaze a trail for full circularity for
others to learn from,” says Eileen Mockus, Coyuchi CEO &
President. “The Full Circle Blanket is the first proof of concept
that circularity is achievable in textiles, and beyond.
We hope this work reflects the growing desire from consumers
to make climate-conscious purchase decisions,
and a successfully tested pathway for other companies to
scale their own circularity.”
How Coyuchi closed the loop
This circular mission began only three years ago when
customers expressed a desire for a way to recycle the
Coyuchi brand items that no longer had a place in their
home. The company responded with the creation of its
proprietary takeback program Coyuchi 2nd Home Take
Back, which offers customers 15% off their next purchase
in exchange for sending back used Coyuchi products
using prepaid shipping. The used products go through a
thorough inspection and CO2 cleaning process via The
Renewal Workshop, then what can be mended is released
HTE
through the brand’s 2nd Home Renewed Label, The remaining
fabric that doesn’t pass the inspection process
contributes to the supply of Coyuchi-brand recycled yarn
fibers, spun by Recover, for the Full Circle Recycled
Blanket and Throw, as well as future recycled products.
EVENTS
Since Coyuchi began collecting its products back from
customers in 2017, the company has taken back 34,694
lbs (approximately 3,000 units) of product:
• 83% of the product we have received from our customers
can be mended, cleaned and resold in our store.
• The remaining 17% can be recycled and contributes to
the supply of recycled Coyuchi yarn fibers
• Around 6,000 lbs of product has been renewed and resold
year-to-date
Since beginning its partnership with The Renewal
Workshop only three years ago, Coyuchi’s impact-to-date
has resulted the equivalent of:
• The energy of 2,532 light bulbs per year
• The carbon of 2,166 gallons of gas
• The water of 25 Olympic swimming pools
• 36,475 lbs of toxic chemicals saved
• 34,694 lbs of textile waste diverted from landfill
on the established offerings of Smart Bedding, Beautiful
Living, Bed & Bath Fashion, Asian Excellence and Asian
Selection. Halls 10, 11 and 12 on Messe Frankfurt’s western
fairgrounds will once again be open to German and
international buyers at the start of the season.
Heimtextil is offering an attractive early-booking rate for
exhibitors until 22 March 2023. The registrations to date
reveal: Even companies that had decided not to exhibit
at Heimtextil 2023 will be represented again at Heimtextil
2024. German and international exhibitors are thus relying
on Heimtextil as an important sales channel for the
future.
Heimtextil 2024 is expanding its portfolio with a separate
product segment for carpets. The Carpets & Rugs
segment will be located exclusively in the new hall 5.1.
On display will be: fitted, handmade and custom-made
carpets, machine-made woven carpets, mats and dirt-absorbing
carpeting as well as rugs and runners. Carpets
are traditionally an integral part of Heimtextil and have
so far been presented by the exhibitors in different halls.
Starting in 2024, this range will be permanently combined
in a separate segment on an annual basis. Heimtextil is
thus responding to the increasing demand from the mar-
ket. International buyers will thereby receive an optimum,
bundled overview of a wide selection of fitted carpets.
The segment appeals to international wholesalers as well
as DIY and home improvement stores, furniture retailers
and furnishing stores and specialised retailers.
“By presenting carpets in a separate product segment, we
are generaing additional added value for relevant buyers.
In the future, exhibitors of fitted carpets can be found
bundled and centrally located in the new hall 5.1. The
range of textile floor coverings will be optimally integrated
into the existing textile environment at Heimtextil. The
new area is already attracting great attention. The past
months have been characterised by a variety of conversations
with companies, potential visitors, associations and
publishers - we have received consistently positive feedback
from all of them for our decision. We are pleased
to be able to respond to the wishes of the branch with
this reliable annual offer”, explains Bettina Bär, Director
Heimtextil.
The global textile industry was represented in Frankfurt
at Heimtextil 2023 with 44,000 visitors and 2,400 exhibitors
together from 129 nations. 92 percent of trade
visitors and 81 percent of exhibitors achieved their
trade-fair goals at Heimtextil 2023, thus confirming the
relevance of the trade fair. Heimtextil not only generated
business opportunities, but also provided valuable
content and inspiration. In addition to learning about
trends and new products, initiating and maintaining
business relationships as well as networking and exchanging
experiences were among the most frequently
mentioned objectives at the fair. The surveys showed
the trend that important purchasing decisions are increasingly
being prepared at the fair. Exhibitors were
also positive about their post-fair business and benefited
from a 72 percent share of executives among the
visitors.
will participate in the 30th
edition of Proposte. Upon
the return of Vanelli inside
the Villa, there will be a
record number of 8 Turkish
exhibitors in addition to
while over 20 others will be
exhibiting their innovative
and competitive products at
International Observatory
concurrently held at nearby
Sheraton Lake Como Hotel as
part of Proposte.
P
Proposte will host 29 Italian and 49 international
exhibitor companies in its
30th edition this year. For the first time,
the French manufacturer Linder and the
Italian manufacturer Jannelli & Volpi,
opening Proposte’s doors to the world of wallcoverings,
will participate in the trade show.
The number of exhibitors is going back to comparable
pre-pandemic levels and it is interesting to note that ten
companies – one Italian and nine from abroad – have
re-confirmed their participation after years. “This is a great
satisfaction that marks a turning point after the issue we
have had with the Fuorisalone of Cernobbio. The fact that
companies have come back to Proposte – like the Turkish
Vanelli Tekstil - is evidence of the importance of Proposte
commented Alessandro Tessuto, president of Proposte.
The 30th edition of Proposte will feature a new collaboration.
This year, Comocrea Interni, the exhibition dedicated
to textile design, will have a reserved area in the
exhibition center. The Ala Regina will also be dedicated
to 18 designers who, over the years, have presented their
collections in parallel with Proposte. Two excellences -
Proposte and Comocrea Interni - have joined forces to
make the visitors’ experience more complete.
The winning format of the trade show has never been
modified despite the many changes of the past 30 years
to ensure that Proposte remained contemporary, reconfirming
itself from year to year as an excellent showcase
for new collections of fabrics for furnishing and curtains.

Mapping organic fibers from the beginning
For Coyuchi, the journey to circularity began when it was
founded in 1991 with a commitment to delivering the
highest possible standard of luxury textiles while maintaining
the integrity of organic cotton’s natural fibers.
This commitment is emulated through the certification of
Coyuchi’s cotton products with the Global Organic Textile
Standard (GOTS), the top certification for ecologically and
socially responsible practices throughout every step in
the supply chain of textiles.
Due to GOTS adherence to a strict set of rules ensuring the
welfare of the materials, the environment, and the working
conditions of every human involved along the way,
Coyuchi can be certain the used products it takes back
from its customers were organically grown and responsibly
processed. With this in mind, Coyuchi developed a
circular business model to meet its own unique needs: in
order for the loop to maintain all the same standards to
which it holds its new products, the company determined
it would start by collecting and recycling Coyuchi brand
products, exclusively.
Thus, the Full Circle Recycled Cotton Blanket & Throw
were born.
