Will there be a recession in cosmetics? 

We call the sector cosmetics, which consists of products that individuals use to make themselves 

more attractive or to solve appearance problems. The most prominent sub-branch of the 

cosmetics industry is make-up (lipstick, mascara and foundation) products. When it comes to 

hair care products; it is possible to list these as hair dye, hair spray, hair gel and shampoos. Skin 

care products, perfumes and hygiene products are indispensable in this sector… 

Auxiliary materials such as makeup brushes in the use of cosmetic products also provide 

added value to the cosmetics industry. The application areas of the cosmetics industry are 

used individually at home as well as in beauty salons, hairdressers, barbers, clinics, polyclinics 

and hospitals. When we evaluate the potential created by all these components, we see that 

the cosmetics industry is a very important sector. Could there be a stagnation in cosmetic 

products, which are needed even during wars and demanded in every aspect of human life? If 

things are not going well in the cosmetics industry, the reason must be sought in other areas...

Bireylerin kendilerini daha çekici kılmak veya görünüm sorunlarını çözmek amacıyla 

kullandıkları ürünlerden oluşan sektöre kozmetik diyoruz. Kozmetik sektörünün en öne çıkan 

alt kolu makyaj (ruj, maskara ve fondöten) ürünleridir. Saç bakım ürünlerine gelince; Bunları 

saç boyası, saç spreyi, saç jölesi ve şampuanlar olarak sıralamak mümkün. Cilt bakım ürünleri, 

parfümler ve hijyen ürünleri bu sektörün vazgeçilmezi… 

Kozmetik ürünlerin kullanımında makyaj fırçaları gibi yardımcı malzemeler de kozmetik 

sektörüne katma değer sağlamaktadır. Kozmetik sektörünün uygulama alanları; Evde 

bireysel olarak kullanıldığı gibi güzellik salonları, kuaförler, berberler, klinikler, poliklinikler 

ve hastanelerde de kullanılmaktadır. Tüm bu bileşenlerin oluşturduğu potansiyeli 

değerlendirdiğimizde kozmetik sektörünün çok önemli bir sektör olduğunu görüyoruz. 

Savaşlarda dahi ihtiyaç duyulan ve insan yaşamının her alanında talep edilen kozmetik 

ürünlerinde bir durgunluk yaşanabilir mi? Kozmetik sektöründe işler yolunda gitmiyorsa 

sebebini başka alanlarda aramak gerekir...

People with dry skin and eczema need to be more careful 

in some seasonal periods. With simple precautions that can 

be taken, autumn and winter months can be spent more 

comfortably. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Serap Karadağ, Department of 

Dermatology from Memorial Ataşehir and Şişli Hospitals 

gave information about the precautions to be taken for 

eczema and skin dryness in autumn and winter. 

Drink plenty of fluids for your skin 

With the cooling of the weather, more drying of the skin and 

eczema are triggered. Eczema begins as a result of weakening 

of the skin barrier by losing the moisture of the skin. The skin, 

whose barrier is weakened, becomes sensitive to all kinds of 

external stimuli. All kinds of chemicals that come into contact 

can further disrupt this barrier, causing redness, wounds, 

discharge, crusting, dandruff, severe dryness and itching. In 

summer, the frequency of eczema and skin dryness decrease 

with the effect of humidity and sun. However, due to the 

deterioration of the skin barrier in cold weather, the dryness 

of the skin increases. Simple measures that can be taken can 

help patients with eczema spend the winter months more 

comfortably. It is recommended that patients with dry skin 

consume plenty of fluids during this period. However, it is 

the saturation of the skin with moisture with moisturizers and 

appropriate oils that will give the skin its actual moisture.

8 tips to reduce your eczema

was previously deemed worthy of two separate awards by the 

Communitas Awards, one of the most prestigious international 

programs in the field of social responsibility. 

“We wanted to breathe beauty into the earthquake zone” 

Informing on the project, Sinem Sandıkçı Gökçen, Country 

General Manager at L’Oréal Türkiye said, “The earthquake 

disaster in February was an event that deeply affected all of us. 

We came together as one in order for people in the earthquake 

zone to look to the future with hope in difficult times. As 

L’Oréal Türkiye employees, we built the “Mobile Beauty Services 

Truck” with our belief in the power of beauty to improve lives 

and our goal of breathing beauty into the region. Our truck 

provided 7 thousand free hair, skin care and make-up services 

in 6 different tent cities for 1 month; We reached 3 thousand 

children with the mobile children’s playground and children’s

Mediterranean Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’ 

Association (AKMIB), announced that they exported 528 

million 310 thousand dollars with an increase of 67 percent 

in December and reached a value of 4 billion 818 million 

dollars in 2023. 

Emphasizing that AKMIB continues to be the export leader 

among the 8 Unions affiliated with the Mediterranean 

Exporters’ Associations (AKIB) in 2023, President Saadettin 

Çağan said that they reached the highest export values in the 

Netherlands, Spain and Romanian markets, and the strongest 

increases in export volume were achieved in the Romanian, 

Togo and Italian markets. 

Stating that chemistry, Türkiye’s second most exporting sector, 

exceeded the 30 billion dollar threshold in 2023, Chairman 

Saadettin Çağan stated that, as AKMİB, they supported this 

performance by 15.8 percent. Chairman Saadettin Çağan 

said, “The Turkish chemicals and products sector exported 30 

billion 572 million dollars despite difficult conditions such as 

access to finance, high inflation, increasing energy costs and 

conflicts in the nearby geography. Our sector, which has a 

wide area with petrochemical products, plastics, paint, rubber, 

cleaning products, cosmetics, medicines, fertilizers, organic and 

inorganic chemicals and medical products, continued to be the

Noting that they continue to take responsibility in 2023 to 

increase the effectiveness of the Turkish chemical industry in 

international markets, Chairman Saadettin Çağan said that 

they successfully concluded Türkiye’s national participation 

organization for the 10th time at PLMA’s 2023- Private Label 

Trade Show Fair held in the USA last November. Chairman 

Saadettin Çağan noted that at PLMA’s 2023 held in Chicago, 

Illinois, which is the 4th most importing state in the USA, private 

label products for many sectors, as well as food and non-food 

products, as well as the chemical industry, were exhibited and 

they had productive business negotiations. The annual import 

volume of the USA in the chemical sector exceeds 322 billion 

dollars. As a sector in this market, our export performance in 

2023 was at the level of 1 billion 151 million dollars. Within 

the scope of the target of increasing the trade volume between 

Türkiye and the USA to 100 billion dollars, it is envisaged that 

the trade volume between the two countries in the chemical 

sector will be increased to 15 billion dollars. Demand for 

private label products in major chain stores in the United States 

is increasing year by year. We must turn the developments in 

private label products, which grow faster than national brands 

in this country and have a unit sales share of 25 percent, to our 

advantage.” 

“We achieved a 222 percent increase in the Romanian 

market” 

Evaluating AKMIB’s 2023 export performance according to 

product groups and countries, Chairman Saadettin Çağan 

said, “As the Union, we evaluated 7 million 68 tons of products 

in international markets in the last year. 89.3 percent of our 

regional exports were clustered in three product groups. 

Mineral fuels and mineral oils, which constitute 67.5 percent 

of our Union exports, come first with a value of 3 billion 253 

million dollars, plastics and their products come second with 

a value of 654 million 337 thousand dollars and a share of 13.6 

percent, and inorganic chemicals with a value of 397 million 

439 thousand dollars and a share of 13.6 percent. It ranked 

third with a share of 8.2. When we evaluated our annual exports 

by country, our star markets were the Netherlands, Spain and 

Romania. We exported 898 million 720 thousand dollars to the 

Netherlands, 388 million 609 thousand dollars to Spain and 342 

million 527 thousand dollars to Romania. In the same period, 

we achieved the strongest increases in export volume in the 

Romanian, Togo and Italian markets. After Romania, where we 

achieved an increase of 222 percent, Togo came with an increase 

of 135 percent and a value of 140 million 380 thousand dollars, 

and Italy came with an increase of 30 percent and a value of 308 

million 700 thousand dollars.”

Golden needle method in acne treatment 

Akne tedavisinde altın iğne yöntemi 

Dermatologist Dr. Hülya Süslü, 

Anadolu Medical Center 

Acne, which affects 85 percent of teenagers, can also be seen 

after the age of 30. Dermatologist Dr. Hülya Süslü, Anadolu 

Medical Center stated that acne scars are permanent scars in the 

form of pits, usually seen on the face, due to acne disease, and 

that acne should be evaluated individually and the treatment 

should be determined accordingly. Hülya Süslü said, “Even the 

best available treatment options can create scars, regardless 

of the severity of acne, depending on the genetic structure of 

the person. Acne scars occur as a result of the destruction of 

collagen fibers. Acne scars negatively affect the psychological 

health of patients and may cause a decrease in quality of life. 

Laser treatments, fractional radiofrequency, that is, golden 

needle, PRP, mesotherapy, dermapen, chemical peeling and 

dermal fillers are used for treatment.” 

Dermatologist Dr. Hülya Süslü, Anadolu Medical Center shared 

that genetics, nutrition, environmental factors and hormones 

play a role in acne formation. Hülya Süslü said, “According to 

studies conducted in recent years, foods that increase blood 

sugar rapidly can trigger acne by increasing the levels of insulin 

and some hormones. Foods with a high glycemic index are 

chocolate, potatoes, white bread, sugar, ready-made foods, 

fried foods and ready-made fruit juices. Dairy products and 

oral supplements containing whey protein may increase acne 

formation. The use of cosmetic products that are not suitable 

for our skin type, medications containing cortisone, vitamin B 

supplements, stress, and hormonal problems can also increase 

acne formation.” 

Ergenlik dönemindeki gençlerin yüzde 85‘ini etkileyen akne 

30 yaş sonrasında da görülebiliyor. Akne skarlarının akne 

hastalığına bağlı, genellikle yüzde görülen çukur şeklinde kalıcı 

izler olduğunu ve aknenin kişisel olarak değerlendirilmesi ve 

buna göre tedavinin belirlenmesi gerektiğini belirten Anadolu 

Sağlık Merkezi Dermatoloji Uzmanı Dr. Hülya Süslü, “Mevcut 

en iyi tedavi seçenekleri bile, kişinin genetik yapısı ile alakalı 

olarak aknenin şiddetine bakılmaksızın iz oluşturabilir. Akne 

izleri, kolajen liflerinin tahribatı sonucu ortaya çıkar. Akne 

izleri hastaların psikolojik sağlığını olumsuz etkiler ve yaşam 

kalitesinin düşmesine neden olabilir. Tedavi için lazer tedavileri, 

fraksiyonel radyofrekans yani altın iğne, PRP, mezoterapi, 

dermapen, kimyasal peeling, dermal dolgular kullanılıyor” dedi. 

Akne oluşumunda genetik, beslenme, çevresel faktörler ve 

hormonların rolü olduğunu paylaşan Anadolu Sağlık Merkezi 

Dermatoloji Uzmanı Dr. Hülya Süslü, “Son yıllarda yapılan 

çalışmalara göre kan şekerini hızlı yükselten gıdalar insülin ve 

bazı hormonların seviyesini yükselterek akneyi tetikleyebiliyor. 

Glisemik indeksi yüksek gıdalar çikolata, patates, beyaz 

ekmek, şeker, hazır gıdalar, kızartma ve hazır meyve sularıdır. 

Süt ürünleri ve whey proteini içeren oral takviyeler akne 

oluşumunu artırabiliyor. Cilt tipimize uygun olmayan kozmetik 

ürün kullanımı, kortizon içeren ilaçlar, B vitamini takviyeleri, 

stres, hormonal problemler de akne oluşumunu artırabilir” diye 

konuştu.


Treatment may take several months 

Dermatologist Süslü underlines that acne treatment is done by 

dermatologists and that the treatment period can take several 

months since it is a chronic skin disease. Hülya Süslü, said, 

“Topical, that is, cream treatments contain retinoids, benzoyl 

peroxide, antibiotics and azelaic acid. Antibiotics, systemic 

retinoids and hormonal therapy can be used in systemic 

treatment. The treatment is individual-specific and each acne 

patient is evaluated individually and the most appropriate 

treatment is given to the person.” 

Golden needle helps repair and renew the skin 

Dermatologist Süslü recorded that the golden needle sends 

radiofrequency energy to the lower layers of the skin with 

micro needles, this creates heat and the resulting heat causes 

controlled damage under the skin. Hülya Süslü said, “In this 

way, it increases natural collagen production and improves 

blood flow, which repairs and regenerates the skin. Personalized 

caps are attached to the tip of the device. These heads contain 

25 depth-adjustable micro needles that transmit radiofrequency 

energy to the lower layers of the skin. With this microneedling 

technology, radiofrequency energy is transmitted to the lower 

layers of the skin without damaging the top layer of the skin. 

Collagen production in the skin is supported, acne-related scars 

on the skin are improved, while side effects are minimized.” 

Dr. Süslü shared that although it varies from person to person, 

it is generally recommended to perform the golden needle for 

3-4 sessions every 3-6 weeks. Hülya Süslü said, “The doctor and 

the patient can determine the number and interval of sessions 

according to need. Even after the first session, its effect on the 

skin is immediately visible and the effect gradually increases 

with each session. It is recommended to repeat it every year or 

maintenance doses are recommended at certain intervals.”

konuştu. 

Altın iğne cildin onarılmasını ve yenilenmesini sağlıyor 

Altın iğnenin cildin alt katmanlarına radyofrekans enerjisini 

mikro iğneler ile gönderdiğini, bunun ısı oluşturduğunu ve 

oluşan ısı ile cilt altında kontrollü hasar meydana geldiğini 

paylaşan Dermatoloji Uzmanı Dr. Hülya Süslü, “Bu sayede 

cildin onarılması ve yenilenmesini sağlayan, doğal kolajen 

üretimini artırır, kan akışını iyileştirir. Cihazın uç kısmına 

kişiye özel başlıklar takılır. Bu başlıklarda cildin alt tabakalarına

Golden needle procedure can be applied in 

summer and winter 

Dermatologist Süslü indicated that minimal pain 

is felt during the gold needle procedure and that 

the patient is prepared for the procedure with 

local anesthetic cream applied 30 minutes before 

the treatment. Hülya Süslü said, “The procedure 

takes 30-60 minutes depending on the area to be 

applied. It is normal for skin redness to occur after 

the procedure, and the redness that occurs usually 

disappears on its own within a few hours. The 

patient can return to his social life immediately. The 

procedure can be applied in summer and winter. In 

some patients, redness may last 3-4 days. After the 

procedure, the skin should be protected against 

sunlight with high protection factor sunscreen 

creams.” 

Pointing out that the golden needle procedure can 

also be applied together with filling, subcision, 

mesotherapy and PRP procedures, Dr. Hülya Süslü 

said, “Thanks to these combined methods, new 

collagen synthesis occurs while all the vitamins 

and cellular support the skin needs are provided.” 

She warned “Golden needle procedure should not 

be applied to pregnant and breastfeeding people, 

people with pacemakers, or if there is an open 

wound or infection in the application areas.”

sürebilir. İşlem sonrası cilt güneş ışınlarına karşı 

yüksek koruma faktörlü güneş koruyucu kremler 

ile korunmalı” diye konuştu. 

Altın iğne işleminin dolgu, subsizyon, mezoterapi, 

PRP işlemleri ile birlikte de uygulanabildiğine 

dikkat çeken Dr. Hülya Süslü, “Bu kombine 

yöntemler sayesinde yeni kolajen sentezi 

gerçekleşirken aynı zamanda cildin ihtiyacı olan 

tüm vitaminler ve hücresel destek sağlanmış olur. 

Hamile ve emziren kişilerde, kalp pili olan kişilerde, 

uygulama bölgelerinde açık yara ya da enfeksiyon 

varlığında altın iğne işlemi uygulanmamalı”

Beware of hair dye allergy! 

Saç boyası alerjisine dikkat! 

Prof. Dr. Füsun Kalpaklıoğlu, 2nd President of the Turkish 

National Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology stated 

that when allergic reactions to PPD became a serious problem, 

Germany, France and Sweden banned PPD in hair dyes, adding 

that newer hair dyes replace PPD in allergy-causing hair dyes 

with para-toluenediamine sulfate (PTDS). She said that it could 

be considered a good alternative for patients with allergies. 

For over 100 years, para-phenylenediamine (PPD), a synthetic 

aromatic amine, and other related members of the aromatic 

amine family have been the main ingredients used in permanent 

hair dyes, and more than two-thirds of hair dyes now contain 

PPD. This compound has a much stronger effect with its low 

molecular weight, ability to penetrate the hair shaft and follicle, 

strong protein binding capacity and an oxidizing agent. 

Prof. Dr. Füsun Kalpaklıoğlu, 2nd President of the Turkish 

National Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology said 

that allergic reactions to PPD became a serious problem in 

the 20th century and that the use of this substance in hair 

dyes was banned in Germany, France and Sweden. She stated 

that in the currently used European Union legislation, PPD is 

allowed to constitute only 6% of hair dye components, and even 

if an oxidizing solution is added to lighten the color, this rate is 

limited to 3%. 

Türkiye Ulusal Alerji ve Klinik İmmünoloji Derneği 2. Başkanı 

Prof. Dr. Füsun Kalpaklıoğlu PPD’ye karşı alerjik reaksiyonlar 

ciddi bir sorun haline gelince, Almanya, Fransa ve İsveç’in saç 

boyalarındaki PPD’yi yasaklandığını belirterek, alerjiye neden 

olan saç boyalarındaki PPD’yi para-tolüendiamin sülfat (PTDS) 

ile değiştiren daha yeni saç boyalarının alerjisi olan hastalarda iyi 

bir alternatif olarak düşünülebileceğini söyledi. 

100 yılı aşkın bir süredir sentetik aromatik bir amin olan parafenilendiamin 

(PPD) ve aromatik amin ailesinin diğer ilgili 

üyeleri, kalıcı saç boyalarında kullanılan ana maddeler oldu ve 

şu anda saç boyalarının üçte ikisinden fazlası PPD içeriyor. Bu 

bileşik, düşük moleküler ağırlığı, saç gövdesine ve follikülüne 

nüfuz etme yeteneği, güçlü protein bağlama kapasitesi ve 

oksitleyici bir madde ile çok daha güçlü bir etkiye sahip oluyor. 

20. yüzyılda PPD’ye karşı alerjik reaksiyonların ciddi bir sorun 

haline geldiğini ve bunun üzerine, Almanya, Fransa ve İsveç’te 

saç boyalarında bu maddenin kullanımının yasaklandığını 

söyleyen Türkiye Ulusal Alerji ve Klinik İmmünoloji Derneği 

2. Başkanı Prof. Dr. Füsun Kalpaklıoğlu, halen kullanılmakta 

olan Avrupa Birliği mevzuatında ise, PPD’nin saç boyası 

bileşenlerinin yalnızca %6’sını oluşturmasına izin verildiğini ve 

hatta içinde rengi açmak için oksitleyici çözelti eklenmişse bu 

oranın %3 ile sınırlandırıldığını ifade etti.

More common in women and individuals over 50 years of age 

Explaining that hair dye contact dermatitis is a common condition, Füsun 

Kalpaklıoğlu said, “It is a delayed type hypersensitivity reaction that 

generally affects the scalp, hairline and neck area. PPD is the most common 

allergen, particularly implicated in hair dye contact dermatitis. Contact 

allergy to PPD may occur in 0.1-2.3% of the general population. It is more 

common in women and individuals over the age of 50. While itching is 

the most common symptom, red rashes are the most frequently observed 

clinical findings. Due to the area where it is applied, it is most commonly 

seen on the face. In addition to eczema, urticaria is also frequently 

observed. The duration of exposure to hair dye is also an important factor.” 

Be careful with skin patch testing! 

Stating that the diagnosis of para-phenylenediamine is important because 

it carries the risk of cross-sensitivity and co-sensitization to other allergens, 

Kalpaklıoğlu said, “People who are sensitive to certain hair dye substances 

should avoid exposure to these chemicals, but should also pay attention to 

possible cross-sensitivity to other similar compounds. Skin patch testing is 

the gold standard test used in the diagnosis of hair dye contact dermatitis. 

Although open practice testing is recommended by manufacturers to 

detect allergy in consumers, the lack of standard conditions makes the 

effectiveness of this process questionable.” 

Hair loss, skin tumors and autoimmune disorders… 

Underlining that in addition to contact dermatitis, the use of hair dye is 

also associated with negative effects such as pigment changes, hair loss, 

skin malignancies (tumor), autoimmune disorders and inflammation of 

the skin vessels (cutaneous), Kalpaklıoğlu said that even if the diagnosis is 

confirmed and they are warned to avoid hair dyes containing PPD, patients

“Newly formulated hair dyes are a good alternative for allergic people” 

Pointing out that due to these side effects of hair dye use, safer alternatives 

to allergenic hair dyes have been generated, Kalpaklıoğlu said, “There 

are newer hair dyes that replace PPD with para-toluenediamine sulfate 

(PTDS). However, a significant portion, if not all, of patients can tolerate 

newer permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes based on PTDS. In 

this respect, hair dyes with new formulations can be considered a good 

alternative for patients with allergies.”

“Genellikle saçlı deriyi, saç çizgisi ve boyun 

çevresini etkileyen, gecikmiş tipte bir aşırı duyarlılık 

reaksiyonudur. PPD, özellikle saç boyası kontakt 

dermatitinde rol oynayan en yaygın alerjendir. PPD’ye 

karşı gelişen temas alerjisi genel popülasyonun %0,1- 

2,3’ünde ortaya çıkabilir. Kadınlarda ve 50 yaşın 

üzerindeki bireylerde daha yaygındır. Kaşıntı en sık 

görülen semptom olurken, kızarık döküntüler en

nedeniyle en sık yüzde görülmektedir. Egzamanın yanı 

sıra, ürtiker de sıklıkla gözlenmektedir. Saç boyasına 

maruz kalma süresi de önemli bir etmendir” diye 

konuştu. 

Deri yama testine dikkat! 

Para-fenilendiaminin, diğer alerjenlere karşı çapraz 

duyarlılık ve ortak duyarlılaşma riski taşıdığından 

tanısının önemli olduğunu ifade eden Kalpaklıoğlu, 

“Belirli saç boyası maddelerine karşı duyarlılığı olan 

kişiler, bu kimyasallara maruz kalmaktan kaçınmalı, 

ancak aynı zamanda diğer benzer bileşiklere karşı olası 

çapraz duyarlılığa da dikkat etmelidir. Deri yama testi, 

saç boyası kontakt dermatitinin tanısında kullanılan 

altın standart testtir. Tüketicilerde alerjiyi tespit etmek 

için üreticiler tarafından açık uygulamalı testi tavsiye 

edilmekle birlikte, standart koşulların eksikliği bu 

sürecin etkinliğini şüpheli kılmaktadır” dedi. 

Saç dökülmesi, cilt tümörleri ve otoimmün 

bozukluklar… 

Kontakt dermatitin yanı sıra saç boyası kullanımının 

ayrıca pigment değişiklikleri, saç dökülmesi, cilt 

maligniteleri (tümör) ve otoimmün bozukluklar cilt 

damarlarının iltihabı (kutanöz) gibi olumsuz etkilerle 

de ilişkili olduğunun altını çizen Kalpaklıoğlu, tanı 

doğrulanıp PPD içeren saç boyalarından sakınılması 

yönünde uyarılsalar bile, hastaların %28,6’sı kadarı 

yani yalnızca çok az bir kısmı saç boyası kullanmayı 

bıraktıklarını belirtti. 

“Yeni formülasyonlu saç boyaları alerjik insanlar için iyi 

bir alternatif ” 

Saç boyası kullanımının bu yan etkileri nedeniyle, 

alerjenik saç boyalarına daha güvenli alternatifler 

oluşturulduğuna dikkat çeken Kalpaklıoğlu “PPD’yi 

para-tolüendiamin sülfat (PTDS) ile değiştiren daha 

yeni saç boyaları mevcuttur. Ancak hastaların hepsi 

olmasa bile, önemli bir kısmı PTDS’ye dayalı daha yeni 

kalıcı ve yarı kalıcı saç boyalarını tolere edebilmektedir. 

Bu açıdan yeni formülasyonlu saç boyaları, alerjisi olan 

hastalarda iyi bir alternatif olarak düşünülebilir” dedi.
